Former "Full House" actress Jodie Sweetin and husband Cody Herpin are taking measures to avoid a custody battle over their 9-month-old daughter, Zoie.

The estranged couple attended their first mediation session this week.

"They're trying to work things out regarding the sharing of their child," attorney Wilma Presley said. "As far as reconciliation as a couple goes, in family law, you just never know."

Sweetin, 26, has struggled with substance abuse and is currently working on her sobriety through a 12-step program.
