No Money, No Kids!

Guest blogger Elizabeth: It may not be politically correct to actually say this out loud -- but all I want in this year is for poor people to stop having kids.

homeless family

I'm not talking about banning all lower income people from having children. I'm talking about banning people who are on any kind of state assistance from having any additional children until they can stand on their own feet.

For example, if you're a single mother or a couple, who fall on hard times and need to go on welfare to pay for food and other essentials, then you should be banned from having any more children until you are back on your feet. Or, if you already have three children and you are in subsidized housing, receiving food stamps or on disability of any kind, you it should be illegal to have more children.

Now this isn't just for me and all the taxpayers who have to foot the bill for all these people and their kids, it for the children themselves. There is nothing wrong with growing up "poor" but when parents can't even afford the bare neccesities, then that is NO WAY for children to live. It's bad enough that there are already kids in the family -- why bring more into it? It's just not right.

"How" you ask, "are we supposed to stop people from having children?" Well, I have the answer plain and simple ... mandatory birth control for all the people over 18 who are using the state assistance. Yup, that's right, I said it (and I meant it) we should put all women above 18 (maybe even 14) on Norplant (the implantable birth control that last about five years at a time) or they should have IUDs inserted.

I know exactly what your next questions are going to be: 1. What about the men? 2. Who's going to pay for all this?

Luckily for you, I have the answers to both questions for you as well. As for the men, until there is a viable method of birth control for males of the species, the only real option would be to sterilize them. Personally, I am all for that -- especially for those males who are habitually or repeatedly draining the system.

On a side note, I also happen to be all for mandatory sterilization of all male (and female) prisoners. Now, I'm not talking about sterilizing people who are arrested once for dealing or possessing drugs -- I'm talking about stopping all murderers, pedophiles, rapists, gang members (be they Crips, Bloods, Aryan nation, whatever) from procreating. I mean, that seems completely reasonable to me -- after all, people who hate raise children who hate -- and who needs more of that in the world?

Now when people on state assistance are able to get off and start taking care of themselves then the Norplant or IUD will be removed -- and if they find themselves back in a position where they need help, then they will have to go back on the birth control.

As for prisoners -- I think that their birth control should be permanent -- tubal ligation for the woman and vasectomies for the men. There should be severe consequences for committing crimes against humanity -- and I think this is it.

As for who is going to pay for this ... we are, with our taxes, just the same way we pay for it all now. The only difference will be that we won't have to pay for the next generation of lazy, hapless, losers who live their lives taking and never giving anything back to society.

I agree to an extent. An IUD can damage your tubes though and make subsequent pregnancies difficult or increase the risk of ectopic pregnancies. So, I don’t believe in that route.

Slow down Elizabeth… Before you start neutering human beings, please keep in mind that children are blessings and that reform is possible - both financially and behaviorally.

If we start mandatory sterilization for criminals and the poor who’s next? Where does it end? would we start sterilizing people because their IQs were decided to be too low? If there is a history of birth defects in the family should they be sterilized because the handicapped are a drain on your tax dollars?

i have always believed in birth control for welfare recipients and it’s definitely cheaper than paying for yet another baby in the system. and while i’m here let me go ahead and vent about all these little darlings who get to send their kids to pre-k for free(that i’m paying for) when those of us who bust their butts to make a living earn “too much” and have to pay thousands of dollars a year just to put our kids in pre-k or not send them at all. so back to the topic, birth control or no check.

When people find themselves in hard times and have to turn to taxpayers (via the government) for temporary (ONE year or less) help to get back on their feet I’m all for them not having more children. But that should be a matter of personal responsibility and not a matter the government needs to be involved in. Unless our goal is to truly become a socialist and then inevitably communist country that is not something that we should consider. However, there are those who are lifelong recipients of taxpayer support (welfare, food-stamps and other such programs) and for those people I would agree that if they have more children while receiving support then they should lose or at least have diminished benefits.

I am seriously wondering why I come by this site, the ethos, if many of the posts are anything to go by, is as far away from how I try to live my life as you can get. This post is a disgrace, an absolute disgrace. Elizabeth is not someone I would like to be acquainted with in my life. I am proud to be a single parent who has been on social welfare in Ireland and my right to have children is NO LESS than yours. For the second time today I am commenting about a post here being shameful. Shame on you.

Elizabeth, get off your high horse, seriously. People fall on hard times and they should not have foreign objects or chemicals FORCED into their bodies because of it.

You know what I would like to see in the new year??? I want stupid people to stop having kids. I want abusers to stop having kids. I want heartless judgemental people to stop having kids that grow up to be just like them. This is a slippery slope, next you will want to pass a law that says anyone born with a disability should be “terminated” immediately for the good of society. That “elderly” is anyone over the age of 55 and should be euthanized for the good of society. Who the heck are you to decide anything??

Wow. I didn’t know God wrote stuff for Momlogic. Who are you to decide who should be fixed and who should be on birth control. And for your information some women do not choose birth control because of the risks. Just because you haven’t had problems with birth control doesn’t mean it doesn’t cause others trouble but wait! You probably don’t use birth control do you? As you are so judgemental I’m sure you didn’t include in your list of people that should take birth control or that should be fixed any catagory you might fit in. Get over yourself, stop judging and make an effort to get out and give something back but please, could you do it without speaking or typing please?? Your stupidity is very annoying.

Cracks me up to see how riled up you all get… I think this post makes sense. It’s not PC but it’s one person’s opinion. Stop taking everything so seriously.

i think women, rich or poor should be able to receive free birth control (whether it be the pill or tubal ligation). hey kinda like what planned parenthood was trying to help out with. i think if it was free to them, A LOT more poor women would be getting it. I have a problem with people who think birth control and abortion is wrong yet complain complain complain about having to pay for all the welfare crap that comes along with poor people having babies. these people that only care about babies until theyre born, then dont want anything to do with them until theyre ready to enlist in the military.

I totally agree with everything that you’re saying here. Look around. Poor starving children in distress and I always ask myself. Why did the parents have them? It’s so selfish.
