Neighbor: Octuplets From Sperm Donor

sign up for the momlogic newsletter Tweet This

In an effort to try and find out more about the woman who gave birth to octuplets earlier this week, we went to the home she shares with her parents and six other children in Whittier, California.

Pregnant woman and baster

What we learned is that her whole neighborhood is buzzing about the possibility that the 33-year-old mother used the same sperm donor to conceive the octuplets AND her other six children.

In an exclusive interview with momlogic, one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, revealed that the very pregnant young mom was THE hot topic of conversation at the neighborhood Christmas party. He says, "From what I heard, she likes kids, she wants a jillion kids. She even lied to the doctors who impregnated her." The grandmother of the octuplets told the LA Times she never expected fertility treatments would lead her to conceive her eight babies. Neither doctors nor family members have commented on whether or not she used donor sperm.

When asked if he knew who the father of the baby is, the neighbor said, "She is single. She used a sperm donor, someone she knew, who donated sperm a long time ago. He donated the sperm for the first six kids and she used his frozen sperm for these ones. I don't think the sperm donor knows about these eight kids. He was not involved."

According to the neighbor, the parents are very supportive of their daughter and even lost their own home in an effort to support her. "The parents lost their house supporting their daughter," the neighbor went on. "They actually bought this house for her, but then they lost their house supporting her and her kids and they had to move in with her. And now her father has to go back to Iraq to earn more money to support her. Her father either works as a truck driver or an interpreter [in Iraq]."

As to whether the mother herself works, the neighbor says: "She's a professional student and I want to know where the money's coming from to do this. Maybe she's using her student loans to do it."

The family is very private: "They stick to themselves and you can always hear the grandma yelling at the kids because they are so rambunctious."

Although many think the birth of the octuplets is a happy miracle, the neighbor disagrees. "We should find out who the doctor is and where the money came from because this is irresponsible. The girl seemed a little off -- and I don't want to be paying for her kids."

She is a SURROGATE mother who is being paid by someone for the babies and who also paid to have the 8 embryos implanted by a doctor outside of the USA, in Mexico or South America.

The difference between the Duggers and 33 year old Nadya Suleman
{She also uses Nadya Suleman Gutierrez} is that the Duggers are NOT on state assistance and provide for their own and work not just on their TV show unlike Suleman.

Her parents went into Bankruptcy in support of her and the Grandpa is now heading back to Iraq to work as they lost one home in support of this whack job.

Looks like this woman should have a mental health screening as the womans off her nut.. that and a liar to the fertility doc about her brood.

SUSAN I’m sorry but, I think your insane. Have you ever stopped and even tried to imagine what it would cost alone in utilities to take care of fourteen children. And your upset she is getting help and welfare from the state. She would be lucky if she lived in the UK then maybe she would be able to almost get by. As it is now I’m sure a few of the older kids are going hungry every night and could you imagine what the parents of the mother gave up, all the healthcare and medications they wouldn’t be able to afford. Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to rely on the US for medical and housing. On the other hand like anonymous said it does kind of sound like the neighbors don’t really know what’s going on and this is all just speculation. I’m sorry but HA! Having babies to get free money. Rediculous! Maybe, maybe if you foster kids you might make some money on the kids if you starve and don’t clothe them. Even then I think people who do that want to get something else besides money out of those foster kids like someone to beat!!!

You people honestly think that even if there are a few irresponsible people out there pretending to be parents that everyone else who needs help should be punished. Are the comments on here that say wake up taxpayers and poor CA for supporting these people when the only reason the state is broke and can’t afford to help these people is because those ” TAX CUTS” that were suppose to make it easier on everybody else just cut funding for this and other programs including the Federal Reserve. Because when you don’t put money in your savings account and spend it instead then when you have an emergency you don’t have any safety net. Hmmmmmmm? Isn’t that what’s going on right now?

Very suspicious January 31, 2009, 7:12 AM

I bet you this woman is a surrogate mother who plans to sell these kids to some child porn ring in some foreign country. This story is very fishy.

Kelly January 31, 2009, 8:32 AM

Hey Ava, this DOES directly affect me since my hard-earned tax money will be paying for the govt. assistance that she’s sure to get in order to support her clan. Quite frankly, if you KNOW that you can’t afford children, DON’T HAVE THEM because you expect the govt. to help you. The entire family seems a little “off” to me.

This just disgusts me…there are women all over the US and Canada going through fertility treatments paying everything they can just to have one baby. And a single mother of 6, already under the age of 7, decided, for whatever reason, to go have fertility treatment. Then have the hospital go to press about her 8 babies, but says she wants to stay private. Yeah ok whatever MOM. I heard on the news that she has Government assisting. Nice….what else can our gov’t pay for when we’re in an economic crisis?????

I’ve been in the PACER online bankruptcy records, and only her mother filed for bankruptcy, on March 24, 2008, trying to save two houses, including the house that this woman’s mom bought for her. The bankruptcy, Ch 13, was dismissed in May of 2008, because Angela Victoria Suleman, Debtor, the grandmother of at least 14, failed to attend the Creditors’ meeting and failed to make the payments required. This sounds like one more headache for Arnold—“as goes California, so goes the country”—and THAT’S not going to help the State of California.

This woman is a brood mare, and it seems that, because of the sperm-donor arrangement, the source of the sperm can’t be held financially responsible. THEY could father massive kingdoms here, just like this, and live off the welfare system. That’s better than what the FLDS are doing—she never has to get near those disgusting men—but it’s possible, quite possible, that this fruitful new resident HAS NEVER EVEN HAD SEX.

Maybe this is the Islamic version of The Immaculate Conception.

Here’s the reason that Mrs. Suleman bought that house and filed for bankruptcy in her own name only.
“Within hours, media had camped out at the family’s home in Whittier, where the babies’ grandfather pulled up in a minivan in the evening and briefly spoke to The Associated Press. Beside him were two children — a 7-year-old and 6-year-old — who said they were excited to have eight new siblings.
But the grandfather warned that media may have a tougher time finding the family after the babies are released from the hospital.”
“We have a huge house, not here,” said the man, who would only identify himself as Ed. “You are never going to know where it is.”
How will the state know where to send the welfare checks if they don’t give their true address? Mr. Suleman is on his way back to Iraq right now, allegedly to raise money. Assuming that he does come back to the U.S. (and who’s to stop him), I certainly hope that all money raised will be reported to the CA authorities—YEAH, RIGHT, THAT’LL HAPPEN.

More kids to be fed by Welfare! Not cool!

jds January 31, 2009, 9:49 AM

The duggars are a bit different they had all of their children the natural way and they are not in debt, pay everything with cash. We also do know how the Duggars provide for their children.
It said this womans parents lost their home because they were supporting their daughter and their 6 grandkids. It also says this woman’s only job other then being a mother is a professional student. The Grandfather is headed to Iraq in order to help them out financially. Clearly bunk him saying they have a mansion hidden away if that was the case he could just stay here and help take care of his 14 grandkids. Her parents recently went bankrupt.

Jennie, she should have thought of that BEFORE she had SIX children then another litter of EIGHT!!

I am a (childfree) UK taxpayer and am sick of seeing feckless people breeding in order to milk the system here and get benefits and handouts. Yes, it happens, it’s almost a way of life for a lot of parents here. The UK needs the US system.

By the way, to call Susan insane, for her point of view, is just plain rude.

Louisa January 31, 2009, 11:24 AM

Something like 50% of Arab-Americans are Christian. I wouldn’t be surprised if no one in the family isn Muslim.

eaglewingz08 January 31, 2009, 11:37 AM

Totally irresponsible. Furthermore why isn’t the sperm donor on the hook for all these kids? He should be made to pay up pronto.

catsmeow January 31, 2009, 12:27 PM

To all you bleeding hearts out there, you pay the bill for this woman and her kids. I as a taxpayer am feed up. This is what “open minded” liberalism brings. Irresponsibility and the mind set you can do whatever you want whenever you want and someone will pay for it. The doctor who did this and the clinic he works for should be sue for all the money this will cost the taxpayers. How many health issues will these 8 have, let alone her other 6. Funny she can afford to have the procedure done, can afford a Nanny, yup she was interview on Los Angeles TV but we have to pay her welfare etc. Disgusted.

anon January 31, 2009, 1:38 PM

Remember the Duggar’s have several commercial properties that they rent out….that’s how they pay for their home, clothing, food and other means of support. Yes, the show probably gives them some money, but they are not greedy people, they are just trying to show the world what type of loving, caring family they are.

This girl…woman, whatever you want to call her, I think is out to get money and support from the country one way or another

This happy little chat leaves me wondering just how many of the virulent naysayers here had themselves, or their partner, sterilized after indulging in having the politically correct number of one-and-a-half or two-and-a-half children. I have eight kids, and still remember with bitterness the hatred and criticism I was subjected to, both from within my family and from my community, for not quitting when they thought I should. My husband and I also had to endure slander that we were on public assistance, just because we were obviously not living high off the hog, when that was never the case. I am very maternal, adored my babies hugely, nursed them for a couple of years each, and they are all turning out just fine. The teens all had a job by age fifteen, none is doing booze or drugs.
And I was an only child from a very much less than ideal background. It cannot be denied my kids are doing one heck of a lot better than I ever did at their age, with my “modern” thinking parents. I rejoice in that.
From my own experience with two hysterically materially ambitious working parents I never even considered not being a stay-at-home Mom. It has worked out pretty well for my kids, I believe.
Every situation is different. A loving momma, and two supportive grandparents might just accomplish more with their personal interest and devotion to those kids than anyone imagines.
So butt out, leave ‘em alone, for pity’s sake. Those fourteen kids will most likely have to suffer way more because of the malice of the surrounding society than from their own family. I believe once the babies are here the only decent thing to do is to be supportive, even if you don’t agree. By hurting and ostracising the parents you are also affecting the quality of those children’s lives in a negative way, and you can pat yourself on the back for contributing to the evil and hurt in this world.

According to an article by the Associated Press, the grandmother of the octuplets was not at all pleased with her daughter’s decision to become pregnant again:

http://news.aol.com/article/grandma-octuplets-mom-obsessed-with/319875?flv=1

A couple of quotes from the article:

Angela Suleman told The Associated Press she was not supportive when her daughter, Nadya Suleman, decided to have more embryos implanted last year.

“It can’t go on any longer,” she said in a phone interview Friday. “She’s got six children and no husband. I was brought up the traditional way. I firmly believe in marriage. But she didn’t want to get married.”

and

While her daughter recovers, Angela Suleman is taking care of the other six children, ages 2 through 7, at the family home in Whittier, about 15 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

She said she warned her daughter that when she gets home from the hospital, “I’m going to be gone.”

Angela Suleman said her daughter always had trouble conceiving and underwent in vitro fertilization treatments because her fallopian tubes are “plugged up.”

and

Yolanda Garcia, 49, of Whittier, said she helped care for Nadya Suleman’s autistic son three years ago.

“From what I could tell back then, she was pretty happy with herself, saying she liked having kids and she wanted 12 kids in all,” Garcia told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

“She told me that all of her kids were through in vitro, and I said ‘Gosh, how can you afford that and go to school at the same time?”’ she added. “And she said it’s because she got paid for it.”

Garcia said she did not ask for details.

Nadya Suleman holds a 2006 degree in child and adolescent development from California State University, Fullerton, and as late as last spring she was studying for a master’s degree in counseling, college spokeswoman Paula Selleck told the Press-Telegram.
===========

There’s already a special-needs kid in the family — an older one has autism — and the twins from the previous pregnancy are young, only two years old.

Why would a fertility doctor implant multiple embryos in this woman? Why would a fertility doctor implant even a single embryo in this woman? Why wouldn’t the fertility doctor suggest psychiatric intervention?

I think the fertility clinic needs to be investigated. Something isn’t right here.

These 14 children deserve a better mother. Theirs is mentally ill.

Annie January 31, 2009, 3:35 PM

I really feel that DCFS needs to step in and see what kind of living situation these kids are in. I live in Illinois and there is a program that every child is insured. That is fine, but when people take advantage of the system (and I am pretty sure that’s what this woman is doing) and then they ruin it for everyone else. Maybe that is why this country is in the crapper. Everyone wants something handed to them. The way this woman is making her money is come tax time and gets all her child tax credits! I know it sounds creepy and I am throwing it out there maybe the gov should step in and in these situations give mandatory hysterectomys! Just a thought…

vee January 31, 2009, 4:17 PM

Let the Christian Right take care of her. Oh wait, they don’t do that, they just judge.

L January 31, 2009, 5:23 PM

The Christian Right does plenty to help mothers in unfortunate situations. All the zpg-ers offer them is abortion or sterilization. Again, where does all the hatred come from? Do we go back to Nazi ways and begin to mutilate individuals to suit our ideology? The land of the free, huh? And who’s the one doing all the judging in this particular situation?
I’ve read some research that there is a link between abortion and breast cancer, especially between teen abortions, and the girl being put immediately on the Pill afterwards. The Christian paper that published it could not afford to spread unsubstantiated material as they’d get their pants sued off in short order. So much for that sacred cow of modern society.
Granted, if all the info fgh provides is on the money, the mom has some problems. Still, the babies are here, two more than she wanted in total. She seems to be an intelligent individual with a good education. Give her a break so she can get on with the business of nurturing the family she wanted.
