School Asks Parents to Donate Toilet Paper

A Detroit school is struggling with a budget deficit and has turned to parents for donations...even toilet paper!
Academy of the Americas sent a letter home with students also requesting basic items such as light bulbs and trash bags.
Some of the parents have complained that the school should not burden them during these tough economic times.
One parent stated that she couldn't even donate the items to herself.

In Miami Dade County there is talk of cutting music, art, language, magnet programs, and some school bussing and getting rid of 5000 more staff members even though they just laid off a truckload and froze all raises for years except for select administrators and their cronies. The state does not want to raise taxes on cigarettes and alcohol to cover the education deficits so the kids are going to suffer. Florida is already 49th in the nation in spending and quality and I guess we’re going to move to the 50th spot in a blink of the eye.
