It rarely happens this way, but a 17-year-old North Dakota girl called police on New Year's Eve to tell them she was drunk driving.

Police found the girl in a parked car before midnight and was arrested for not having control of her vehicle while intoxicated. She failed a field sobriety test, but was not cited for drunk driving because the car was parked and the keys were in her purse.

The girl told police "her life was out of control" and has spent the past two weeks drinking. Police say the unusual call was a plea for help and they released the girl to her parents.
