Passengers were told to prepare for a water landing.

Reports indicate the flight, to New York from Charlotte, may have hit a flock of geese or a bird. There were 146 passengers on board, along with 5 crew members. The FAA has announced that everyone made it out and is fine, with just four people being treated for hypothermia.

One passenger on the plane said they were told by the pilot to prepare for a water landing, so they grabbed seat cushions and life vests. Immediately as the plane hit the water, several passengers moved out and onto the wing.

One witness told the Associated Press, she thought, " why is it so low?" and then, she says,"splash, it hit the water."

Another passenger told a local station in NY that passengers on the plane all made sure the women and children got out first.

I read one account that is giving total credit to the pilot, they’re saying he’s a hero. It’s great that no one was killed!!!

I’m very pleased to read all the POSITIVE reporting on this event! (Miracle on the Hudson; Men making sure women and children first; etc.) I hope this is an indication that the media is finally getting the message that RESPONSIBLE reporting is GOOD reporting. Sensationalism might sell print, but it is NOT what society needs!

While I’m sure we can all agree that this story had a positive ending, I for one would be a little upset if some man made me get off a plane first just because I’m a woman. Where’s the equality in that? I would have had a few choice words for those guys.
