You may be surprised to learn how many white kids admitted to using coke ... and how many moms are hooked, too. (No, this study is NOT from the '80s.)

A New York Times opinion writer, ironically named Charles M. Blow, noticed that President Bush left out a major statistic when he touted the results of a University of Michigan drug study that reported a broad decline in drug use among young people, "According to data from the group that produced the report, the percentage of both black and white 12th graders who confessed to using cocaine in the past 30 days has essentially stayed flat since 2001. The major difference is that white usage outweighs black usage 4 to 1."

He goes on to point out that: "According to the most recent data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, admissions of white teenagers to drug treatment centers for crack and cocaine abuse soared 76 percent from 2001 to 2006." Blow says we need a real strategy and we need one now.

This problem is not isolated to teenagers alone. Many moms are hooked on coke, too. In fact, 41-year-old Kimberly Calo, a mom of two, died this weekend at fancy New York City hotel The Kitano of an apparent cocaine overdose.
