Dora the Explorer Gets Extreme Makeover

She's now a tweenager, goes to middle school, and has moved to the big city. Will she have acne, too?

Mattel and Nickelodeon have announced that Dora the Explorer is growing up.
Gina Sirard, vice president of marketing for Mattel, says: "Girls really identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves."
As a tween, Dora has moved to the big city, attends middle school and has a whole new fashionable look. She will also have a rich online world, a la Webkinz, in which girls can explore, play games, customize, and solve mysteries with Dora and her new friends.
Wanna see? Nickelodeon and Mattel plan to keep Dora's new look a secret until the brand launch in Fall 2009. And start saving those pennies: The Dora Links fashion doll, for children five years and up, will retail for approximately $59.99.
We're not sure what to think about this proposed new look. We like Dora just the way she is, and are not huge fans of cartoon makeovers in general. But a kindergartener we know recently rejected a Dora toy for being too "babyish" (this, from a five-year-old), so maybe they're onto something.
Are they seriously making Dora a TWEEN?! Sound off!

I think tween dora will be great. Because it wont show bad stuff it will be a good tween. That can teach kids when they grow to be a tween they will be a good not bad. All because tween dora.
I agree that this is a lame attempt to try to get older girls to continue to watch Dora. I have seen the prototype on another website and she does not look like a “hooker” or a sexed up cartoon. She looks like a cute little girl with long hair, ballet slippers, leggings and a flowing top - very similar to how many mommies of little girls dress THEIR daughters!!. People seriously need to chill out! It is a cartoon for goddness sakes not the end of the world. As for the ignorant, uneducated woman who made the comment about “shuving” (btw, you spelled it incorrectly - the correct way to spell it is “shoving”!) spanish down our throats, I feel sorry for your children!!
i think it is a great idea! kids love squeals i know i did, the idea of her growing up with her fan base is awsome!! the kids i watch love dora and always have, but as they are growing up they are mastering the basic language skills and are ready for more. they tell me all the time the new words they have learned and they remember them!!! i think this is a great move for the show!
dora is ok dont change her
I feel they should leave Dora as she is. My granddauthter, who is 2, loves Dora so much, and has everything they make with her. The bigger kids has other things to enjoy. She has been a great role model for the little ones. If you have too, make a new something else for the older kids. Dora has already been established for the smaller kids.
I know im not a mom, but you people worry too much. it’s not like dora is doing anything that your child cant watch if its appropriate then let it be.
I like the new Dora my four yr old
she is tired of the same she dont like Dora that much any more. And i think the new Dora has a more fresh look and kids will like it more i already likeit
she dont look to grow up just more femenine and beautiful the old Dora was not a good looking gril now she can look better than the monkey
i believe that its a great idea that dora is growing up. showing dora as a little girl forever will become boring to our children.however changing her appearance to much might be a bit overwhelming. as long as they keep the education im ok with it.i mean hey, dora has a little twin brother and sister, showing dora as a big sister, teaching her little brother and sister education, manners, etc will be a good idea.
Please, let the girl grow up. this will help kids, by watching Dora, when she a little girl, and then a pre-teen and a teenager. I feel this will help kids.
You can’t stay little forever. These kids will grow out of Dora.
Dora doesn’t look to revealing! She is a tween, and don’t all tweens wear short clothes that are revealing??? Come on now, i am definetley buying my 12,10, and 8 year old a tween Dora! Yes thats alot of money…but its worth it! I am a single 36 year old mother thaht watches 3 children during the day, they all need something to get their mind off of bothering me…a Tween Dora Doll will just do! I don’t know about you guys, but I think people should give the Tween Dora a try!
i think that the new dora is way prettier than when she was young
speaking of dora i like circles but i think its preety dumb people have always said be yourself and look wat doras doin
Personally i think your all haters just because doras ageing quickly you all descriminate against her i support the idea if you dont like i dont have your children watching the show
yo are stupid
i trully think that Doras new look is good it shows the little ones that we all have to grow up some time even our favorite people on tv
Yes Dora needs a new look its about time, we all grow up.
how in the f*** are they gonna make dora a hooker, what are they gonna make her have to make decisions like doing crack or doing a boy………
WTH??? I KNEW ABOUT THIS LIKE 3 MONTH AGO!!!!!! WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY DO IT NOW??? AND, BTW why should they make a yet, sexy dora???
As long as they have the leggins with the little dress I see no problem with the new Dora - at least in regards to appearances. I too hope they keep her as a good role model - they kind with no attitude, light make up if any, etc. It’s to bad they couldn’t continue to make both episodes, one of Dora younger another of Dora older so that there would always be new episodes of each.

Don’t make Dora grow up… kids are growing up too fast as it is these days, if you want to keep the spanish influence then give Diegos sister Alicia (Dora’s older cousing btw) her own show… Diego was introduced on Dora, and moved on, Alicia was introduced on Diego next show please…
