Dora the Explorer Gets Extreme Makeover

She's now a tweenager, goes to middle school, and has moved to the big city. Will she have acne, too?

dora the explorer

Mattel and Nickelodeon have announced that Dora the Explorer is growing up.

Gina Sirard, vice president of marketing for Mattel, says: "Girls really identify with Dora and we knew that girls would love to have their friend Dora grow up with them, and experience the new things that they were going through themselves."

As a tween, Dora has moved to the big city, attends middle school and has a whole new fashionable look. She will also have a rich online world, a la Webkinz, in which girls can explore, play games, customize, and solve mysteries with Dora and her new friends.

Wanna see? Nickelodeon and Mattel plan to keep Dora's new look a secret until the brand launch in Fall 2009. And start saving those pennies: The Dora Links fashion doll, for children five years and up, will retail for approximately $59.99.

We're not sure what to think about this proposed new look. We like Dora just the way she is, and are not huge fans of cartoon makeovers in general. But a kindergartener we know recently rejected a Dora toy for being too "babyish" (this, from a five-year-old), so maybe they're onto something.

Are they seriously making Dora a TWEEN?! Sound off!

If there is such a need for an “older Dora”, then just create a NEW character that is that age. If they need the Dora connection, it could be her cousin or something! Leave Dora just the way she is.

i think this is so stupid i have a three yr old and she loves dora i think dora should stay the way she is

I think this is a great idea- she just looks like a happy kid. I do daycare and all my girls have outgrown the original Dora, I hope this takes over Hanna Montana, This is a positive thing for kids!

umm i think you guys are not really thinking i mean geeze people a little changes that all dont make a big deal about cartoons need to grow up to you know

I think this is a wonderful idea. Everybody grows up at some point. So why not have your favorite doll grow up with you too? Dora is now more realistic looking, not so cartoonish. And for everybody that is dissing the doll and make a HUGE deal out of it, GET A LIFE! Maybe spend some time with your kids instead of worrying about a doll.

I dont think Dora should grow up she is an Icon for children ages 2-6. Just like Barney should be about 90 yrs old but he still looks the same. Dora enlightens the lives of young children all over the world. These kids are growing up but Dora the Explora needs to stay the same because my 4 year old doesn’t need to know anything about junior high. She like Dora the way she is. I suggest a new older character be introduced on the Original Dora show, as an older sister or cousin instead of taking away the Dora as we know her. There are many children teens that have grown up but still watch the same Dora the Explorer from their childhood only they are watching it with there little sisters and brothers. Please dont change Dora to a risque teenager with makeup and longer hair that not Dora thats someone named Gabriella the teenager.

as i have showen my 6 year old daughter a pic of teen dora and she thinks it would be cool that dora is growin’ up as she has watched dora since she was a baby… she also said that the new dora looks like dora couisn stacy….. so when stacy is on a show do people put her down NO they dont so let dora grow up as we know no child out there stays a little kid they all grow up… this is all i have to say…

Stop being so ignorant ” THIS IS AMERICA….” you cant be that stupid. So you want to tell me you never been outside the US?

I think they should keep Dora the way it is my daughter loves her.

If rugrats all grown up got a lot of ratings this maybe what is inspiring this stupid idea. Personally i lost interest when they aged the rugrats…it was fun at first but as a kid i couldnt relate to the show about teen kids.
