A Wisconsin mom accidentally hit her three-year-old son while pulling out from her driveway.

Patricia A. Welch, 28, thought that her son was in the house putting on his coat when she began to drive in reverse. She says she felt her car bump into something and got out to investigate. After discovering her son lying beneath the trunk of the car, she put him in his car seat and rushed him to the emergency room.

The police say that they are investigating the incident but that alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The child is being treated at a University of Wisconsin hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
