Ty, the maker of Beanie Babies, has decided to not market dolls named after First Kids Malia and Sasha Obama.

"Marvelous Malia" and "Sweet Sasha" from the Ty Girlz collection have been renamed "Marvelous Mariah" and "Sweet Sydney." CEO Ty Warner of Oak Brook-based Ty, Inc. said in a statement that dolls' original names were inspired by "this historic time in our nation's history," but the dolls weren't intended to bear the likeness of President Barack Obama's daughters.

Warner says Ty is changing the names out of respect to the Obama family after First Lady Michelle Obama said using her daughters' names was inappropriate.

Profits from sales of the original dolls will be donated to charity.

I’m glad to see that the Ty company has come to their senses. I don’t blame Michelle for being upset, I would have been, too.
