Spokesman Michael Furtney said Suleman did not want to disclose the nature of the disabilities, or the type or sum of the payments.
Furtney confirmed the public assistance payments after two sources told the Los Angeles Times that Suleman was receiving food stamps and federal supplemental security income.
"In her view, these are just payments made for people with legitimate needs and are not, in her view, welfare," Furtney said. "She just believes that there are programs for people with needs and she and her children qualify for some of them."
In an interview that aired Monday, Suleman told NBC "Today" show anchor Ann Curry that she does not receive welfare.
Her six other children are under the age of 7. All 14 children were the result of in-vitro fertilization.

You know whats sad? There are people who work very hard and long hours and they still cannot provide all the food for their family. And this lady just sits around sucking money out of the state of California to feed her litter. SAD.
LADY, YOU ARE SELFISH, YOU CAN NOT GIVE THE SIX CHILDREN THE ATTENTION AND CARE THEY DESERVE, MUCH LESS ANOTHER EIGHT. I AM SURE YOU THOUGH YOU WOULD GET ALL OF THESE INDORSEMENT AND FREE GIFTS FROM COMPANIES,& AND WOULD PROFIT FROM THE CHILDREN, I FEEL SORRY FOR YOUR FAMILY.
I think its disappointing to know that this mom will be living off the state to suppoert her children. She obviously does not have the means to support the previous six why did she add more to the bunch? I have 4 beautiful children, I work full time and my husband is an active duty military service member. Its hard to raise a family and ensure that they have all they need, but we work hard together to make it happen and here is this woman who is not only living off the system but continues to have more children. It would also not surprise me to see in the near future someone building her a house and donating millions of diapers. Which really is ridiculous considering how many people there are struggling to take care of their 1 or 2 children. It truly is shameful. Stop having babies! you don’t make the money to feed them!
I’m fuming! Nannys and acrylic nails for a mom that takes food stamps! If her IVF doctor in this case knew that she had 6 kids at home and no job, he should lose his license (It’s possible that Ms. Suleman kept that info from him/her). She states in her Ann Curry interview that her degree will allow her to provide for her children—does that mean she plans to work? Even working at home takes attention away from children. She has 3 disabled children. The potential for any of these new eight to have disability is high. Kaiser is evidently asking the state of California to pay for over a million in medical expenses for Ms. Sulemans selfish act(s)—I hope they plan to file a lien against any endorsements or TV deals that she accepts. Her poor mom! I don’t blame her for venting, whether or not she reconciles with her daughter.
Already I believed that Miss Suleman has serious mental health problems. To them, I now add that she appears delusional. Food stamps and SSI disability payments ARE WELFARE. The appalling situation worsens with each new revelation. The woman already had three children with disabilities severe enough to receive SSI payments. Brilliantly scarlet red flag to avoid bearing additional children, and to focus on loving the six children already born, and striving to care for the special needs children in every way possible. This woman does NOT “love children.”
Doesn’t she understand that the more she talks, the less likely she is to get a job in counseling? She sounds nuts. The nails were probably done by NBC for the interview, so people can relax about that stuff. The “nanny” isn’t Mary Poppins—it’s a neighbor who probably gets $5.00 an hour in cash. But Nadya’s clearly demented, not too bright and if she had 3 disabled kids, why did she breed more? I’m guessing she didn’t take a genetics class.
My question is…
Is she done or can we expect MORE??

I feel bad for the kids plain and simple. This woman doesn’t seem to understand what she’s doing.
And not all of us with children of disabled children get assistance. I mean to think she thought that’s how it is. It would be nice to have that assistance but my husband works his butt off so that we don’t need it.
Which disability check is paying for her publicist? I find this nauseating. The publicist said in another article that she is “pissed”(nice language). No one is against this woman because she is single or poor. No one is against the children. We just wonder how safe these children are in this situation.
What about the Doctor that did the in-vitro. He should lose his license. Where did she get the money to do it twice? She doesn’t have the money to take care of the children.
So she’s getting food stamps (government issued stamp to be used in exchange for food for low income people) and SSI (A Federally-funded NEEDS-BASED disability program for adults and children which provides monthly cash benefits and, in most states, automatic Medicaid eligibility) and she also got money from workers comp (A system of compensation for work-related injuries or death, paid for by EMPLOYER COMPENSATION INSURANCE CONTRIBUTIONS)….and you are surprised and appalled by that? Those programs are there for those who need them and who qualify for them. Clearly she qualifies. Why are so many people pissed off about this? People are always wanting more social programs, supposedly to help the poor (let’s face it if Octomom and her kids are not the epitome of poor and needy than what is). Democrats want to expand and increase all our existing (in my opinion broken) government ran social programs. They voted for a president that will socialize everything that he can get his hands on. And now they want to complain that someone actually has the gaul to use one of these social programs?! Programs that they want to expand and increase?! Really?! Huh?! So is it that you want to provide the money for the needy and you just don’t want to see them use the money or is the problem that if people accept the money you want the government to have ABSOLUTE CONTROL over every aspect of their lives?……………The problem folks is not that she is on public assistance or even that she had SO many kids while on welfare; its that we have a social services programs that encourages people to stay at home and collect a check from the American tax payers instead of getting a job (any job) themselves. So you see the problem is not with this one mom it’s with the system.
What is wrong with the doctor in this case? He knew she had six other children, because he did the invitro for those preganancies also. And who is paying for all of these invitros? Did she use the $165,000.00 that she got in her disability settlement from her job to pay for that, rather than take care of her children?
She is a scumbag, and should be put in a mental institution. Somewhere down the road, something is going to happen to those children, and then the authorities are going to have a bigger mess on their hands.

Sadly enough people forget the reason for state help and funds. It’s to help get that person back on there feet. That means less money you put towards food can be put towards better education.
Americans have become lazy to the point they feel they have to breed like rabbits. Kids are great don’t get me wrong. But it’s selfish to have that many kids. There is no personal time for each child. Especially if she has two children that are for special needs.
She just needs to wake up to reality. Those children need her.
Don’t be surprised is DCCS comes in a picks those kids up.

The even sadder note is she is one of many like this - have a kid, get the tax free $. And, the worst part is the entire country (not just California) pays for this. Check out the spendulus bill - Pelosi’s whole deal has been adding billions of (US Taxpayer dollars) to the California budget to pay for items just like this. So, ALL of us pay this price, not just Californians. I wish citizens would pay attention to how much of this is going on, and how much more we’d all have (in tax money not taken) if we didn’t vote the people in office that promote this. so sad for ALL of us.
Amazing…wonder Mom says she was lonely so she wanted a bunch of children. I have been hungry at times but did not buy a whole cow in order to get a steak! Get real, if you are lonely, get a dog! Oh that’s right you cant get SSI and welfare

Hey lady, those checks that you get for your disabled children are welfare. They are paid out of USA general funds…which is from the american tax payers.
Public awareness, I work for the social security administration whom is the agency whom pays out the supplemental income program.
California pays out a supplement to the monthly federal amt which is $674.00 so the total would probably be over $700.00 monthly for each disabled child. This program has no cap to the number amount of children whom can be on SSI or a cap to the household. Which personally I think this program needs to be looked by Congress very closely to see the wastlefull spending of some families whom can have 5 kids on SSI have a over 40000.00K tax free yearly income, free medicaid and with with all kind of benefits. No wonder many parents just prefer to have another kid…
Am I making my point! Yes lady this is welfare and arent you in California? Isn’t this this the state that is bankrupt, furlowing it’s state employees because they have no money. So yes lady you are also helping your state on it’s budget! Hey I have an idea….get pregnant again? Hey just one more on the rolls of welfare…right!
