Even though Nadya Suleman told Ann Curry she is "not on welfare," her spokesman confirms she is.

Nadya Suleman
The Southern California mother of octuplets receives $490 a month in food stamps and three of her first six children are disabled and receiving federal assistance, Nadya Suleman's publicist confirmed Monday evening.

Spokesman Michael Furtney said Suleman did not want to disclose the nature of the disabilities, or the type or sum of the payments.

Furtney confirmed the public assistance payments after two sources told the Los Angeles Times that Suleman was receiving food stamps and federal supplemental security income.

"In her view, these are just payments made for people with legitimate needs and are not, in her view, welfare," Furtney said. "She just believes that there are programs for people with needs and she and her children qualify for some of them."

In an interview that aired Monday, Suleman told NBC "Today" show anchor Ann Curry that she does not receive welfare.

Her six other children are under the age of 7. All 14 children were the result of in-vitro fertilization.

What do you think about a mom of six on welfare who then decides to have eight more kids? Comment below.

My husband and I being financially responsible, have no children of our own. Yet people like this woman just spit them out like candy. Why can’t we adopt some kind of over see like china.. Prove you can support them and then you can have them! GET HER FIXED!!

i think it is sad because my husband lodt his job right before christmas and i have gotten a full time job just to support our child and i am struggling because of lack of money we turned t the welfar depatment for medical and foodstamps does that make us bad parents? but as for her that is way too many kids to have expecially all under 7!!! someone should tell her that there is alot of responsibility there and i think the best thing for her is to take the offer because she is nuts!!! she needs to think about the babies and expecially her mother who is watching the others while she has fun it isnt anyones responsibility to take care of those kids but hers she needs to get a job and quit taking taxpayers money!!!

Honestly, I think you all are being extremly irrational. Whats wrong with this woman having children and why is it any of your concern. How many other kids are you paying welfare for? Guess what? You have paid welfare for me and my kid too get over it. You pay welfare for my mom my brother and my sister and their medical benefits. How the economy is today your gonna be paying for a hell of a lot more. People need assistance. Could you explain to me how this is any diffrent from people who foster parent to children with disabilitys who collect funds from the state? The only difference is that they are her children. So how dare any of you discredit her as a mother or a person because none of you know her personally your all being judgmental and rude. You should all be ashamed and grow up.

i cannot believe this stupid woman!! why the hell would she think its ok to have as many babies as she pleases and have ME (ca taxpayer) support them! GET A JOB YOU LAZY LOONY TUNE.. the sad part is the ones suffering from this are the children

I don’t think anybody should judge this woman. I was at a laundromat and a dumb woman made a studip comment about getting “fixed”. Now, this ignorant woman had four children of her own and she’s Indian from India and has a BP gas station and she should shut her mouth and tell her people to get “fixed” because they have the second most population in the world. She should go “fix” herself first before opening her big mouth and her legs again. My point is don’t judge people…it makes you look ignorant and hateful.

There are so many hateful people out there. Who the hell are you to make all those hateful comments about Nadya and her 14 children. Look at the way the government is bailing Corporate America out of their scandals. Why don’t you save all your hate for the CEO and war mongers who create wars to steal other country’s resources and the lives of your children going out to war for them to keep them rich and mighty? Tax payers this, tax payers that, welfare, SSI, stop hating on this poor woman the real problem lies with selfish and hateful people who judge others. I bet if Nadya had been a white lady like the one who had seven children in 1996 this would not be an issue and she would get gifts and all kinds of things. You are hating on Nadya and her 14 kids because she is ethnic. I am proud of you, Nadya. You are a good mother and a good human being. For all the people who judge you, may be they should go save the 2.5 million babies killed by abortion each year and go after the doctors who perform those abortions. And maybe they should adapt the millions of children who need adoption. I guess they would rather have dogs than children because they would rather pick up dog poop for 17 years/or life-time of the dog than change a baby’s diaper for a year. The people who make hateful comments about Nadya are those who are mentally-ill not Nadya.

This issue is aggrivating on so many levels. If this woman, regardless of her race, could afford, care for, and house these 14 children without any help from the government, it would be a moot point. BUT, since she collects SSI for three of her kids and food stamps, it brings it right in to the face of all of us. This is just another example of women turning their uterus in to a xerox machine and crank out babies just to live off the system. I think that the welfare/foodstamps/SSI systems all need a complete overhaul and people like Ms. Suleman should be cut off. After all the interviews, I would wager that children’s services is watching her closely.

How can you give the motherly nurturing needed by each one of your children, especially as infants? She is not a loving mother as you can see in her mannerisms around the babies. She is only trying to impress the cameras but it outrages me to see how fragile and dependent those babies are and she cannot care for them

irma sue  March 11, 2009, 9:41 PM

i think she went over board how in the world is she going to manage 14? only way now PORN industry! watch! she got offers already! only way she gonna take care of them lil ones who didnt ask to be born thats whats mess up about all this they wasnt ask to be born! now theyll be knowEN as the longest lived premies etc… MAY FORCE BE WITH THEM!!

tauna April 3, 2009, 9:25 AM

Nothing will come whether you said good or bad about the lady. The babies are already born. Have sympathy for the babies.
