Couple Arrested after 2-Year-Old Drowns

WSBTV: A Gwinnett County couple was in jail Friday after a 2-year-old child drowned in the pool at the couple's home on Thursday.
The incident happened at about 2:50 p.m. Thursday in the 3700 block of Bradford Walk Trail N.E. in Buford.
Police told Channel 2 Action News that when medical personnel arrived, Bankolemoh was unresponsive. They said a care taker stated that the child had fallen into her above-ground swimming pool.
Police said the care taker, identified as Tanga Sheri Moon, 34, ran a day care center for several children at her home. Investigators said there were four children, ranging from 2 to 9 years old, in Moon's care at the time of the incident.
Officers arrested Moon and her husband, Shawn Moon, 36, charging them with two counts of cruelty to children in the 2nd degree and one count of reckless conduct. They were taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
The couple's five children were placed in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services.
Authorities said Moon told them that she left the room temporarily where the children had been playing to use the bathroom.
Police said the child who drowned was not Moon's child.
Authorities said Moon told them she jumped into the pool and found the child lying at the bottom. Moon said she pulled Bankolemoh out and began CPR.
When EMS arrived, they continued CPR while transporting Bankolemoh to Gwinnett Medical Center. Upon arrival at the hospital, life saving measures continued to be preformed, but were unsuccessful. The child was pronounced deceased.
Investigators said it is not known at this time whether Moon was legally licensed or required to be licensed to care for the children that were left in her custody on a daily basis.
