Mom Jailed for Hitting Sex Offender with Baseball Bat

FOX: A judge in the state of Washington has sentenced a mother to three months in jail for hitting a convicted sex offender with an aluminum baseball bat.
Before her sentencing yesterday, Tammy Lee Gibson told the judge that laws were needed to keep convicted sexual predators away from children.
The 40-year-old mother of two pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of third-degree assault in January.
Court papers say Gibson saw fliers announcing a sex offender had moved into a trailer park near her home. She went to the man's address, knocked on the door and accused him of molesting her daughters. Even thought Baldwin had not, Gibson hit him with the bat.
She initially was charged with second-degree assault and felony harassment, which could have meant an eight-month jail sentence if she'd been convicted. But the prosecutor and Gibson's lawyer agreed to the three-month sentence.

Stereo-typically sex offenders are more than likely to repeat offense. Standing her ground may have prevented her daughters from ending up under his grip.Although not provoked nor any crime committed against her, some times the best defense is a good offence.
I think when someone is convicted of molesting a child they should be automatically “fixed” just like the dogs they are. They’ll never do it aggin!
sex offenders should be put to death immediately!!!!!!!!!! I’m glad she wacked the SOB one, its ashame it didn’t kill him
Actually, I think all she accomplished was bringing attention to herself and her daughters. Maybe not something you want to do when dealing with a sex offender?
ha ha. you go girl. i say, beat the hell out of him. he deserves much worse than that. i think they should have killed him.
Good for the mom..I’ll do the same thing.Everybody should walk up to sex offenders and just beat the crap out of them, even if its for no reason
That was dumb, now she is not there to protect her children should something actually happen.
I detest sex offenders. Regardless, we can’t just start hitting people with baseball bats. If she had a bat in her hand and someone did approach her child in an inappropriate manner, that would be another matter entirely.
I have 2 daughters and I understand why she did what she did, but she is lucky the charges were reduced and that she isn’t serving a longer sentence.
If there was a known sex offender living near us, yeah, I’d be extremely cautious. I wouldn’t be taking the kids over to say hello. But taking a baseball bat to a person when nothing has happened? No. That’s not defending- that’s attacking, and I doubt that people doing stuff like this is going to make our neighbourhoods any safer.
If he’d approached one of her kids and the police wouldn’t act on it, I’d feel differently.

I would like to reply to the lady who said sex offenders should be put to death immmediatly some sex offenders are on the list because they were like 18 or 19 and had sex with their 16 year old girlfriend and things like that that are wrong but don’t fall under the category of child molestation I started dating a boy who was 2 and a half yrs older than me at 14 he was 16 1/2 and we were still together when I was 15 and a half he was 18 if we had sex he could technically be arrested for it and be listed as a sex offender it really isn’t fair to lump them all into the same category because some parents get mad enough to report it. This guy may have been a child molester and he may not have been.
An fascinating dialogue is worth comment. I feel that it is best to write more on this topic, it may not be a taboo topic however generally persons are not sufficient to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers

Umm… you cant just walk into people’s houses and start hitting them with a baseball bat… no matter who they are, or what you suspect.
Good, I am glad she is getting this sentence— people like to take the law into their own hands, and it can end up all wrong- imagine if this woman had a gun!
