The Associated Press reports that actress Natasha Richardson has died. Our heart is breaking for this family.

A statement from their publicist says "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

Earlier today, columnist Liz Smith had written: "Everybody in the family -- Liam, the two boys, Vanessa, Lynn Redgrave, Joely Richardson -- have all been in the hospital with Natasha, and word is in at 1:30 PM WEDNESDAY they have taken Natasha off of life support. This is not unexpected. Insiders felt yesterday, on learning they were flying Natasha in to Lenox Hill, that this meant her condition was hopeless and they were just finding a place to be together with her and to say good-bye. As one insider remarked: 'Nobody goes to Lenox Hill who is really sick; if she' d had a chance to live, they'd have found another great brain hospital!' This is all just utterly horrible to write!"

Our thoughts are with the family.

It’s scary really. She had no symptons right after the minor incident,I mean she just fell but it later took her life. It’s possible a blood clot in her brain caused her death. In fact I suspect she may have been on birth control, which are known to put women at risk of having blood clots….Quickly,we need to pour more money into the pink ribbon cause, having her breast exam early could have saved her life :P

Please tell me how you leap from “she might have been on birth control” to “pouring money into the pink ribbon cause” to “a breast exam might have saved her life.” The blood clot or subdural hematoma was caused by her fall. No breast exam would have kept her from falling, and rarely a minor blow to the head can result in a death. It is sad and tragic and, as impossible as it may be for you to believe, Yaz, sometimes things happen that NO ONE can control: not money, not the Pill, and not a breast exam. Come on now!!

What an incredible loss. What a beautiful, vibrant, elegant sexy woman. Took her death for me to realize what a hidden gem she was. She exemplified a true professional thespian. She never bough unnecessary attention to herself or her family.

Great actors like her don’t die, they just make a quick stage exit to heaven. My condolences to the family. I know her boys must be hurting for their mom. That love could NEVER be replaced.

How unfortunate. I hope her family is ok.

Yaz: How in the world did you arrive at that conclusion? I suspect you’re just trying to exploit this for your cause when it has absolutely nothing to do with it. Take that to another forum.

she will be missed by everyone…

Yaz: what a time to preach against birth control, shameful behaviour not to mention illogical.

She was such a beautiful woman, and I feel so sad for her family.I never heard of any thing bad aganist her,she seemed like such a nice lady. My heart is breaking for her husband and her children.Maybe some good will come out of something so tragic, maybe we’ll stop and think twice when we’re doing something that might cause a head injury and put on a helment. And maybe parents will be more aware to protect our childrens brainsby making them wear a helment. And also maybe ski resorts and slopes will require them.
