Teens: Half Have Seen Domestic Violence

But most would never tell their moms if it happened to them, our poll found.

Chris Brown and Rihanna

When Radio Disney sensation Chris Brown allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Rihanna, we were disturbed. These were our kids' role models, after all. How would this affect our children? To find out, we went straight to the source. Momlogic.com surveyed nearly 500 teens and young adults on Facebook about the Chris Brown-Rihanna situation, and what we found was shocking.

Our survey respondents are no strangers to domestic violence:

• 50% of guys and girls both say they have witnessed domestic abuse firsthand.
• 42% of guys and 37% of girls say they have witnessed a friend being the victim of domestic violence.
• 23% of girls and 50% of guys say they have personally been hit by their partners.

Think you know "everything" about your teen? Think again. We asked if they would tell their parents if this happened to them? 61% of girls and 47% of guys said no way.

In addition, an alarming number of the teens we polled blame the victim. 42% of guys and 36% of girls shockingly felt that Rihanna did something to deserve what happened.

When asked if Rihanna should have taken Chris Brown back, 80% of girls and 66% of guys said no. But 68% of girls and 55% of guys say they'll still listen to his music even after this incident.

Think your teen is an abusive relationship? Here's what you need to know.

What do you think about these survey results?

I agree with Stephanie. When the story came out, my first thought was “Who?” I then realized I remembered Rhiana from a make-up commercial. I’m not a fan of their music style. In high school my best friend (of 32 years now)& I were 10 feet away, along with several others) as a 16 year old boy put his hands around his girlfriend’s neck. The only one who stepped up to say anything was a girl. The boy slapped her. This boy beat the crap out of the girlfriend often. One of her black eyes she blaimed on a car accident to her parents. At school, she told us her father did it, which bought him a visit from the dept. of children’s services. I could have kicked my friend in the seat of her pants when she dated this same boy right after high school. Of course, his ex-girlfriend was to blame for the violence because she asked for it. My friend was to blame for the time he beat her unconscious after confronting him at his home, where he had another girlfriend visiting. After she dropped the assault charges, I went 2 years without speaking to her. The high school girlfriend was stupid enough to choose him to be her 3rd husband and have a child with him. Before their divorce was final, she was shot and killed by a police officer as my best friend looked on. The abuser had been following her around town one night, tapping her bumper every chance he got. That was the end of the officer’s career because what he thought was a gun was actually a cell phone. Abusers don’t just ruin the lives of their victims and themselves.

Sorry but the media need to start reporting both sides of this story. Chris has not had a chance to say a single word and as a mother of a teenage boy I have witnessed girls punching their boyfriends and laughing about it. Rihanna admitted to hitting Chris on several occasions and Chris has never ever retaliated. I have also met a woman who shamelessly told me she set her boyfriend up for dumping her and he went straight to jail after she told the cops he beat her up. She had beaten herself up and framed him. There are some sick women out there too. Let Chris have his day in court, it’s enough mud slinging.
