KCRA: An Amber Alert was issued Thursday as police searched for a man who allegedly abducted a young girl in the Bay Area and may be heading to Mexico.

The California Highway Patrol said the apparent abduction took place at 5 p.m. Wednesday in San Leandro.

Authorities were looking for Luis Meza Valdiva, 26. He was described as Latino, 160 pounds and 5 feet 8 inches tall. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

He was said to be traveling with 22-month-old Yosseline Carolina Meza. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeve T-shift and beige sweatpants.

Valdiva was believed to be driving a white 1992 Toyota Camry with California license plate 5GBD911.

Police said Valdiva took the girl and her mother from the Bay Area to Turlock. He pulled a knife on the mother and told her she would never see the child again before fleeing, police said.
