Boy Made Plastic Parachute, Took Death Dive

Associated Press: A friend says a 9-year-old New York City boy might have been imitating a video game character when he apparently made a plastic parachute and jumped to his death from his apartment building's roof.
Ten-year-old friend Shakar Murrel says Domori was a fan of the wrestling game "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw" and loved wrestler Jeff Hardy's swan dives.
Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Entertainment expresses sympathy but calls for "a full investigation ... before conclusions are made." It says no "SmackDown vs. Raw" characters jump off buildings or use parachutes.
Domori's mother tells police she had gone to the store.

So….Domori’s mother went to the store— I’m so glad this story interjected that random tidbit. Beautiful writing.
I don’t understand where the video games come in. Kids play video games. Kids are stupid. Therefore video games make kids stupid?
How is the game tragic? Isn’t the child being left alone to jump out a window slightly more tragic and a little more important?
The story is tragic, however the video game should not even be a factor.
The headline should be ‘9 year old plunges to his death with a home made parachute’
It’s up to parents to teach kids reality from fiction.
How many kids jumped off buildings from Mary Poppins? Was it on the news?
Everyone wants someone to blame, and I find that a shame…
OK, let’s leave video games out of this. It’s not the fault of the video game that this kid made a tragic mistake. His mother should have been paying better attention, anyway.
This is so sad..my heart goes out to the family…and I too have left my 10 year old daughter to run to the grocery store for 20 minutes or less… what parent possibly thinks their 9 year old child will jump off a a 13 story building? By that age kids should be able to understand that they cannot fly… It doesn’t really matter…there is NO BLAME here..it is a horrific, tragic accident that may or may not have been avoided.
people shoulndtsay that .thats mean.he is smart.its nobody fault.things happen.
no, some people are just dumber than others. lets be honest, yeah, it’s a tragedy, but c’mon… some people are just misinformed and/or plain stupid.

My heart goes out to the Mom for the loss of her son … but … a 9-yr old should not be left alone. Nor should he be playing video games that are rated T or M, as I am sure the WWE game is. Tragic lesson learned.
