A new exhibit in London serves up cheese made with mother's milk. But is it art?

Artists work in varied mediums: oils, pastels, clay ... but Mexican artist Raul Ortega Ayala works in the medium of cheese, specifically cheese made from human breast milk. At the launching of his London exhibition entitled Alejandra Ortiz-Reynoso, named after one of the women who donated her milk, Ayala said his intention in displaying his cheese and cracker plate as art is to "explore our first encounter with food emphasizing its territoriality and boundaries."

And if anyone has any doubts that Alejandra Ortiz-Reynoso was not a willing participant in his artistic endevours, Ayala assures us, "The women donate the milk to him voluntarily." Well, yeah, it's pretty hard to get "let down" if you're forcing a woman to lactate.

Would you ever consider cooking with your own breast milk?

I’m really trying not to be gross here, so please “hear me out”. If babies are healthy drinking it and it comes from a human mother. What’s so gross about it? We drink cows milk that comes from an animal that smells gross, and eats hay. So what’s so gross about human milk and cheese from a woman that takes care of herself?
