Diane Mizota: NOOOOOOO! Say it isn't so! Steve Wozniak, one of the most endearing contestants this show has ever seen has danced his final nerdy, awkward, low-scoring routine of the season. The mysterious judges' score/viewer vote calculation, which Woz himself called "suspect," didn't fall in his favor this week, as he and his partner, Karina Smirnoff were axed from the show in a double elimination.
Is there a "Pretty Girl Curse?"
Holly Madison was the other casualty of the night, being the second sexy female to be eliminated from this season. Beautiful female model/actress/reality stars typically don't endure on this show. Here's a theory as to why: The Pretty Girl Curse.
Often times these women have lived in a rarified bubble, where all they've had to do was smile, bat an eyelash or push up their boobs and fame and fortune have fallen in their lap. They haven't been challenged to cultivate wit, humility or skill (crucial attributes to winning viewer votes) because their hotness has always been their strength. In the ballroom, however, this bubble gets burst; beauty alone can't cut it. It is one place where gorgeous good looks have actually been more of a hindrance than a help, where "pretty" may just be a curse. That could be part of this show's appeal with women. I'll admit it, I like watching hot women suck at dancing. Is that so wrong?
(Notable exception to the curse: Brooke Burke, a gorgeous model/tv host, won season 7 BUT also happens to be a mother of 4.)
