Would you renew yours?

Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault

New mom Salma Hayek will reportedly renew her wedding vows this weekend in Venice. Last year, hot mamas Soleil Moon Frye and Mel B both renewed theirs. But is having a wedding do-over a good idea or a waste of time?

We asked moms to weigh in:

• "I would love to do it for a future anniversary -- maybe ten years. I think it's just a nice way to say, 'Hey, I'd choose you again.' Sometimes we need to know that after many years and a few kids." -- Jackie

• "My husband and I renewed our vows ten years ago for our ten-year anniversary. We got to do everything right that we did wrong the first time ... better dress (hated the one I had made in Hawaii), a great bouquet (forgot one the first time cuz I wore a lei), an actual wedding cake (luau didn't offer one), and all our friends who couldn't make the trek to the islands for the vows. The best part of all, my daughters -- who were then 3 and 5 -- got to be a part of the ceremony -- and they are still my favorite pictures of all time." -- Jill

• "My 8th wedding anniversary is on Monday and I will definitely renew my vows at 10 years. I want the small wedding I always wanted -- just Marv and I and a few close friends and family, NOT 600 people like the first one!" -- Jennifer

• "If my husband wanted to do it, I would do it. But other than that I would never do it because I am very shy and I would hate to have all that attention focused on me." -- Melissa

• "My mom died a little over a year after I got married, and I had moved out of state to take care of her. So after she passed, my husband and I went to Vegas and renewed our vows. Since we had been separated so long during my mom's illness, this was a fresh start to our marriage, and a new beginning. I like to think my mom was watching down on us that day!"
-- Julie

• "I would like to renew my vows. Weddings are one of those things that most people want do-overs for. If people say they don't -- they're lucky or lying." -- Annie

We’ll renew our vows. I think it’s great to just remind yourselves of the committment you made, and to refresh your marriage. It doesn’t have to be big or extravagant, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. A simple ceremony at your home can be just as meaningful, I think. And I look forward to my vow renewal cuz my kids can be there and see just how much their parents love each other and how committed we are!

Have we run out of things to write about? This is almost word for word last years article all over again. One might figure that with the economy out of whack you’d have enough to write about.

We renewed our vows on our honeymoon cruise. It was funny standing in a circle with all of these older couples who had been married for decades. When it came time to introduce ourselves I announced that we had been married for 6 days.

What a waste of time. I wanted to elope in the first place. If my husband ever suggested renewing our vowes, I’d divorce him.
