There's nothing like exposing your child to different cultures and experiences, but this is ridiculous ...
What looks line an X-rated street fair is actually a family festival that's been going on in Japan since the 17th century. The Kanamara Matsuri (The Festival of the Steel Phallus), known to foreigners as the "The Penis Festival," takes place every April.
There's plenty to do: Buy a penis shaped-lollipop from a vendor or watch locals carve penises out of daikon (radish). And what outdoor "family" event would be without fun things for the kids to play on? The festival's main attraction for both adults and kids alike are the giant phallic-shaped seesaws that are supposed to bring good luck. Good luck trying to explain to kids why you don't have one of those in your backyard!
OK, maybe we're prudes, but would you bring your kid to a parade celebrating the phallus?
