PiscesSandra Cantu Murder Suspect Reportedly Rape Victim
AOL: A woman accused of sexually assaulting and killing an 8-year-old California girl separately told three of her friends that she had been raped herself, the Tracy Press reported.
According to all three friends, Melissa Huckaby was 18 at the time and living with her parents in La Habra, Calif. The friends, who asked that their names be withheld, did not know each other. But each told the same story that Huckaby was date raped by a police officer shortly after she graduated from high school in 1990, the paper said.
Each said the rape, which Huckaby never reported to police, occurred during a difficult period in her life, when her first boyfriend and best friend had both moved away and she was having trouble getting along with her parents.
One friend also shared private letters suggesting that Huckaby had suicidal episodes since the sixth grade.
Huckaby's ex-husband told ABC's 'Good Morning America' Friday that his ex-wife was generally carefree but "had her struggles" and suffered from depression.
"I do believe the emotional issues came into play quite often in her lifetime," Johnny Huckaby said on 'GMA.' "She did suffer from depression. She did have issues with ... her self-persona, who she saw herself as."
Yet Johnny Huckaby said he could not imagine his former wife, a Sunday school teacher, would be capable of such a hideous crime as the murder of Sandra Cantu. The little girl's body was found stuffed into a suitcase left in an irrigation pond.
"My initial reaction was shock and complete disbelief," Johnny Huckaby said of his ex being the prime suspect. "It's not something you want to think anyone possibly [is capable] of doing -- let alone somebody that you knew. And that's a mother of your child."
The Huckabys wed in August 2003, when Melissa was pregnant with their now 5-year-old daughter. The couple separated a year later and divorced in September 2005.
Johnny Huckaby said, as far as he was aware, his wife was "a good mom" to their daughter.

I have never posted before. Does anyone think it may be possible that the suspect tried to make it look as though Sandra was sexually abused AFTER Sandra was already dead, to perhaps make everyone suspect a male and throw off the trail?
IT SEEMS TO ME EVERYONE IS JUST TRYING TO COME UP WITH EXCUSES FOR THIS WOMAN. WOULD THEY BE DOING THE SAME IF SHE HAD DONE THIS TO THEIR CHILD? WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HER DOES NOT IN ANY WAY EXPLAIN WHY SHE DID THIS HORRIBLE CRIME TO THAT INNOCENT LITTLE GIRL. SHE DESERVES NOTHING LESS THAN THE DEATH PENALTY OR IF SHE GETS LIFE IN PRISON I HOPE AN INMATE GETS A HOLD OF HER AND PUNISHES HER THE WAY SHE REALLY DESERVES TO BE PUNISHED.

Again I query ..is it possible that this woman is covering up for someone else who may have been a contributor to the death of this little girl. If she was killed at the church is it possible that someone there may have had a hand in this horrific crime…this is so sad.

If that was my daughter that was raped and murdered, that woman would have a lot more to worry about than prison.
Don’t forget “innocent until proven guilty.”
However, that being said. So what if she was raped? That doesn’t mean she has the right to do that a child.
Regardless of what the police say, I think someone else committed this crime…and she is covering up for them for some reason - maybe they’ve threatened to kill her own child. I will never believe this woman killed that little girl. If I had to guess, I’d look at her grandfather.
This is so sad:( why she did it? Sandra was an inocent girl, why we have people doing things like animals :(
I am fallowing the story. Am living here in Switzerland, my husband is US citizen. I say, the woman didn’t do it, there is someone else she is covering. I am waiting, cause time will show…sooner or later Huckabee will speak.

Being raped as an 18 year old and the rape of an 8 year old child cannot be compared. This child didnt even know what rape was. If Melissa was raped as a small child it would explain a little. Chances are she was abused as a child. Of course nothing can excuse this monster for doing this. As an adult you know what is right and wrong. I really dont know how all these defense attorneys can sleep at night.
It makes me sad to think about the reality of raising kids nowadays. YOu can never let them out of your sight. I don’t care what any parent says, you must watch your kids always. I don’t fault the parents of Sandra, I don’t think I could live with what they have to. I send to them my prayers for strength, but please people. Watch your children and be aware of where you live. Check the sexoffenders watch website to ensre you know who lives around you. I checked and there is a registered sex offender who lives down the street from me, but no one in our neighborhood was informed. There is no justice for children nowadays.
I was raped as a child and molested for years by my own father…yet I never ever harmed a child..let’s not make excuse for this women..there are alot of women raped and molested…it is not an excuse or a reason

If it’s true that she was raped and has had suicidal tendancies since childhood, thats horrible but not an excuse for what she’s done. I myself have lived through sexual abuse and suicide attempts and depression and I have never even had any thought what so ever to do anything to anyone else ever!!
My mom raped my two sisters,my older brother and me. She felt it was a good thing for her to do. Plus she loved doing it. Her parents never did anything sexually bad to her. I in a way think it was a rebellion towards her mother. A rebellion in secret from her family. My mom also did many other horrid things in her life. I grew up knowing the wrongs she did. I could not repeat them. The day she died was the day I felt like a big rock was taken off my back.

I’m sorry that you had to go through that from your mother. Are you sure she “loved doing it”? That is unimaginable that a mother could “love” being THAT evil. Are you sure she felt that way? Is there a chance that she was also abused as a child?? Did she have a diagnosed mental problem? Are you getting professional help for yourself, so that you can heal? It sounds like it may still bother you a little bit. My heart goes out to you.
The next time a guy rapes a child and he is found to have been abused when he was young,his case should fall on equal grounds as to the turn out of this case.Be carefull ladies,we may see a catch 22 resulting from this case.Her excuse could and should become any guy’s excuse too!It puts everybody on equal ground.
You know everyone is in disbelief of this woman murdering and raping a little girl but we all know some women are just as evil as men. She may fall in that 5% of evil women. Who knows, she might have had thoughts of killing her own child and before she acted on that she killed someone else’s child. Either way she needs to be given the maximum punishment: The Death Penalty. We need to put the fear of the law into these people who do crimes against children. In California there was a man who broke into the house of a little girl and took her in the middle of the night. Thanks to the Ameber Alert she was found. This man only got 5 years in prison, now when he is released everyone will have to start worrying again. These people do not change. Once Americans get this through there head maybe they will keep these people in permenatly or give them death. Our children are not safe as it is, let alone release someone from prison who you know does crimes to children. KNOWINGLY SENDING PREDITORS OUT SO THEY CAN GET OUR KIDS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!
