The 9-year-old and her 38-year-old mother were abducted yesterday.

Bonnie Sweeten, 38, of Philadelphia, called police shortly before 2 PM yesterday, saying she was in the trunk of a dark-colored 1990s Cadillac. She said she and her 9-year-old daughter, Julia, had been abducted by two black males, an FBI spokesman said yesterday. The mother said that she and her daughter were abducted after they had a minor accident with the Cadillac.

Bonnie's ex-husband, Anthony, gave an emotional interview this morning to the "Today" show to plead for their safe return. Momlogic spoke with Anthony's mom, Theresa, who is Julia's grandmother and Bonnie Sweeten's former mother-in-law, to learn more about the case.

momlogic: What can you tell us about Julia?
Theresa: Julia has brownish hair. She's a pretty smart kid. She's very active in sports. She's on the softball team, she's a cheerleader, and she competes in competitions. She was just in Hershey, PA, at the beginning of the month competing in a cheerleading competition. She's very close to her two sisters. Faith is 8 months old and Paige is 15.

ML: What can you tell us about Bonnie?
Theresa: Bonnie and I were very close. She was my former daughter-in-law. She and my son Anthony were married and Julia is my son's daughter, my granddaughter. I wouldn't say we talked daily, but when anything was coming up with the kids she always kept me informed. Bonnie is very involved in her children's life. She spends time at the school doing school activities and she's a good mom. She has blonde hair and a fair complexion.

ML: How would you describe the area you live in? Is it relatively safe?
Theresa: I don't know if any area is safe anymore. You think it's safe. When I had my kids in Philadelphia I thought I was taking them to a safe environment, but who knows? It's just a quiet suburban area ...

ML: Is there a message you want to send?
Theresa: If anyone knows anything at all, please say something.

An Amber Alert describes Julia as 4 feet, 1 inch tall, 59 pounds, with long brown hair, blue eyes, and a dime-sized birthmark on her forehead. Her mother is described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 130 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call 911.
