Can Breast Milk Cure Cancer?

This father-daughter team hopes it can.

After Tim Browne was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, he poured his daughter's breast milk over his corn flakes to help fight off the disease.

He and his daughter, Georgia, appeared on "Good Morning America" this morning to discuss the medical benefits of breast milk.

They believe the same antibodies that help breastfed babies ward off illness might help adults, too.

But ABC News medical contributor Dr. Marie Savard said that even though breast milk is known to have benefits and its make-up can't be reproduced, "there's no research to say those same proteins in human breast milk will benefit this man."

Do you think breast milk can cure cancer?

Sort of creepy for Pops to be drinking his daughter’s breast milk… but I guess when you don’t have that much hope left, your willing to try anything.

Um that kind of makes me alittle creeped out.

Okay, this is NOT about sex.We think it’s fine to drink another mammal’s milk, and we think it’s fine to donate a kidney to save a relative’s life…….so what’s the difference? it may not be science, but it’s certainly not sex, either. Looks like it’s just about family trying to help family. Does that really make you uncomfortable?

interesting that even on a group called MomLOGIC, breastmilk is sexualized. Whatever. IMHO, it’d be worth a try. I mean, there’s no harm and who knows? It might help. I know breastmilk can clear up an eye infection. And every time my son’s got sick when they were younger and still nursing, BM was the only thing they could keep down and I’m positive that it kept us out of the hospital on more than one occasion when they would have needed IV fluids if not for BFing. So I mean really, why not?

Last time my daughter had an ear infection I pour BM for the first time, and guess what? NO MORE EAR INFECTIONS since then! Coincidence?

To answer the question, NO I don’t think it will cure his cancer.

to my Fellow latina mom of 3, I agree BM is GREAT for ear infections but and ear infection is not anywhere near cancer. I’m not attacking you girl, i’m just saying…

This is kind of sad. No, breast milk, in all it’s nutritious beauty, will not cure any form of cancer. I understand the impulse to try ANYTHING, but there’s something truly distressing about this.

Who knows whether it will cure cancer or not. Just because it isn’t proven doesn’t mean it can’t help. Perhaps there hasn’t been any (or enough) research as of yet. I don’t know why people have to sexualize everything. Breastmilk is alive and passes antibodies and many nutrients on to babies. In fact, the intestines of babies exclusively breastfed are different from babies fed formula. The breastmilk helps the intestines develop. I think it is wonderful for a daughter to help her father in this way. Personally, I’ve never had cancer, but I wonder how many people would try this if they had cancer and access to breastmilk.
