Miss CA's Mom: She's Being "Persecuted"

Francine Coppola, the mother of embattled Miss California Carrie Prejean, speaks exclusively to momlogic about what she says is the persecution of her daughter for "speaking her opinion."

"My daughter is a bright, beautiful, strong woman," she tells momlogic. "She entered a pageant to WIN. She was ready physically, mentally, and spiritually to answer any FAIR question that was given to her on that stage that evening. She was asked a question and she answered it HONESTLY and from her heart. She was raised in a CHRISTIAN home. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Now she's being persecuted for speaking her opinion. This is a country that allows freedom of speech. She has every right to exercise it ... and she did."

She continues, "As a mother ... I'm proud of her, that I raised a daughter that has morals, values, and integrity to speak the TRUTH. She had the courage that evening to face an evil man in front of millions of viewers ... and not be afraid to speak what was in her heart! I know God is going to protect her from this evil man and all the others that are trying to attack her for voicing her opinion."

In response, Perez Hilton tells momlogic, "Obviously Francine Prejean has been talking with the devil more than she has with God. I don't think I'm evil. She does. We can respectfully disagree. However, God does not think I'm evil. God loves me. And I love God. I spoke to God before the Miss USA pageant and she told me to ask that question. She also told me that Carrie Prejean did not deserve to win. Really! That's what God said to me. Ask her!!"

He adds, "But, all kidding aside: the question I asked was fair and relevant. Carrie Prejean did not answer it as well as she could have. To this day, neither Carrie nor her mother acknowledge the fact that I was not upset with her answer to my question but HOW she answered it. Oh, and I spoke to God again today. She says that Carrie's title as Miss California should be taken away!"

I definately understand morals and values. I was raised with them as well. Just because I am gay doesn’t mean i don’t have morals or values. One thing i would say is, no boob jobs for me or anyone in my family. Good job mom! raised a winner!

I don’t know about her, but he is as obnoxious as ever. HE was the one asking the question, she answered honestly, and he is having a cow. Should she have lied? I don’t get people. When you ask a question, you have to be ready for an answer you may not like. Otherwise don’t ask that question. These pageants are a joke anyway. Encouraging young women to focus on their looks alone is pathetic and can bring nothing good.

Carrie Prejean’s mom doesn’t get the point that Carrie Prejean’s actions have proven her stupidity. She is holding the tile as Miss California. Doesn’t she understand that she needs to disclose the truth about her semi-nude photos & follow the rules & regulations set the pageant officials? Hello???

She is totally being persecuted!! Hilton is an EXTREMELY arrogant, narcissistic child… heaven forbid he ever “married” and/or raises children!! Carrie has been mistreated in a horrific manner. And it all comes down to the fact of how she answered the question. On one hand, these Miss CA officials are upset because of the way she’s handled herself, etc… but why are they not upset over their judge (Hilton) who goes on the internet spewing venom, calling her a b***, etc?? Where is the outrage from them over his behavior? Why is he not the one being fired? It’s so utterly hypocritical. I agree with Mrs. Prejean… she raised a very admirable young woman. Admirable because she has a lot of courage. To stand up to the bigotry of the intolereant homosexual community takes a lot of courage these days. There is protection for them, but not for those who they don’t like. It’s truly frightening that our country is catering to them when they are clearly so filled with hatred and disdain as well as intolerance. Mrs. Prejean did a great job raising Carrie. She has much more character and strength and courage than alot of young woman nowadays. If the only “dirt” they could find on her were a couple of modeling photos that were not nearly as provocative as some of the stuff young women pose for, well, that says a lot.

There is also morality in christanity. It is not just you take off your cloths and start preaching on issues. They all are trying to hold on to the straw “christianity” for her to keep the crown and if there was morality practised in christaianity, she will not fill up with silicon and then go and present naked to be photoed and compete to be a beauty queen with it and then trying to preach. Leave the homosexuals - they may be doing sin- but I think they are better than you folks.

I personally think she flubbed terribly on her answer and I agree with Perez that it could have been answered so much better. While answering the question, she didn’t even sound sure of herself or her answer. I understand those are her views, but I’m glad she lost the title of MISS USA, because a Miss USA is supposed to be for all people, and a spokes woman to do so. I think her crown as MISS CA should be taken from her, but it wont I’m sure because they’ll look at this as “all she was doing was speaking her mind”, when it’s not about that. I also believe that now she’s on this “freedom of speech” campaign, and “saying what she was honest and moral” about when I don’t believe she answered the way she did because she was being moral, I believe she got up there and like I said before she flubbed and had to deal with it later with major damage control. BTW if she is supposed to have such strong Christian Values why is she running around getting boob jobs, and taking slutty looking pics and God knows what else. Wonder what else will come up over the next few weeks about her supposed “christian” beliefs.

I strongly applaud what Miss California did and agree that she has been openly desecrated for it. She had the courage to say something that was not “politically correct.” I’d like to think we live in a country where someone can gracefully say something to the contrary of what someone thinks they should say. As for the pictures - unfortunately, I think they undermine her credibility and that is a shame. That’s why it’s so important for us to make the right choices in life. Whether or not the pictures would have come up, I still applaud what she did that night in the pageant. The pictures are a whole seperate issue to discuss.

I don’t understand how that’s an “unfair” question when so many people ask it. It’s a common question, if anything. The way she voiced her opinion came off as offending. She implied that to be gay was a choice (which is not only incorrect, but offends people). And while it’s should be right to voice an opinion, it’s not right to offend people with your opinions. Just because you say “no offense”, it does not make it inoffensive.

freedom of speech…say what you want in your private life….she said it in a PUBLIC forum, which means she can be/SHOULD BE criticized by every single person in this world. I dont care what her views are, i dont care what she personally believes, SHE IS REPRESENTING THE VALUES AND THE PEOPLE OF CALIFORNIA

I do believe Hilton was harsh, but Miss.CA did lie so whatever happens is what she deserves. I don’t agree with her but that is her own opinion and she is entitled to it.

Well, clearly the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. It’s ridiculously unchristian to call Hilton “evil”. Miss Prejean’s opinion is just that- her opinion. When answering questions in a pageant of this kind a contestant should, at this level of competition, know exactly how to answer any question without including her true opinion. Part of being Miss USA means knowing how to skirt an issue without inflicting her own true opinion, should that opinion be controversial. That is why she lost the crown, not because of her “Christian” values. I wonder what Miss Prejean and her mother would say is God’s opinion of Carrie’s nude photos. Too bad Francie didn’t address that in her interview, I guess she was too busy calling Hilton evil.

Perez Hilton is so annoying and just wont give it a rest. he asked the question and too bad it wasnt the answer he wanted! he just keeps whining about what the “right” answer should have been… cant a girl just speak her mind. its so sad and ridiculous that people had to go back and dig up dirt so that she can lose the crown… i bet if you go back and dig up dirt on any or all of the other contestants they’ll all have something their crowns/titles should be taken away as well. agree or disagree, it was one persons opinion that got blown way out of proportion. Perez is the only one making a big deal of it…its not even in any of the newspapers/websites or even tabloids

Well, i think if she’s going to talk about morals and things then she should never have posed for those nude pictures. B/c of the nude pics she should lose her title. but I really wonder why the mom is calling Perez an evil man? what makes him so evil? b/c he’s the one who asked her the question or is it b/c he’s gay? The mom needs to grow up.

Oh for goodness sakes! Miss Prejean had every right to exercise her freedom of speech, which she did! And then the judges of the pageant had every right to decide whether or not her answer was one that best represented the the title of Miss USA, which they did. And I would just like to point out that this wasnt President she was in the running for, it’s a flippin beauty pageant! Get over already!
