Francine Coppola, the mother of embattled Miss California Carrie Prejean, speaks exclusively to momlogic about what she says is the persecution of her daughter for "speaking her opinion."

"My daughter is a bright, beautiful, strong woman," she tells momlogic. "She entered a pageant to WIN. She was ready physically, mentally, and spiritually to answer any FAIR question that was given to her on that stage that evening. She was asked a question and she answered it HONESTLY and from her heart. She was raised in a CHRISTIAN home. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Now she's being persecuted for speaking her opinion. This is a country that allows freedom of speech. She has every right to exercise it ... and she did."

She continues, "As a mother ... I'm proud of her, that I raised a daughter that has morals, values, and integrity to speak the TRUTH. She had the courage that evening to face an evil man in front of millions of viewers ... and not be afraid to speak what was in her heart! I know God is going to protect her from this evil man and all the others that are trying to attack her for voicing her opinion."

In response, Perez Hilton tells momlogic, "Obviously Francine Prejean has been talking with the devil more than she has with God. I don't think I'm evil. She does. We can respectfully disagree. However, God does not think I'm evil. God loves me. And I love God. I spoke to God before the Miss USA pageant and she told me to ask that question. She also told me that Carrie Prejean did not deserve to win. Really! That's what God said to me. Ask her!!"

He adds, "But, all kidding aside: the question I asked was fair and relevant. Carrie Prejean did not answer it as well as she could have. To this day, neither Carrie nor her mother acknowledge the fact that I was not upset with her answer to my question but HOW she answered it. Oh, and I spoke to God again today. She says that Carrie's title as Miss California should be taken away!"

What do you think? Is Miss California being persecuted because of her beliefs? Or should she lose her crown because of the semi-nude pictures? Sound off in our community!

Get over it!!!
This lady has an opinion that is shared by a majority of Californians.
Perez needs to be ridiculued more than she has been.
The press just wants to make contriversory.
I am so sick of the press.
GOD BLESS AMERICA and the right to free speech and opinion.

Perez is a jerk, similar to the other P. Hilton.

Bill Polly May 12, 2009, 8:34 PM

Perez Hilton does not have any class or should ever be a spokesman for anything. He just has no talant. What a non entity for the Gay rights and not a spokesman who is a Wannabe.

Natalie May 12, 2009, 8:36 PM

She had a right to express her opinion when answering the question as should anyone, but should not have taken those “nude” photos…shannon, I honestly hope you will reconsider your comment and i hope you will find faith and the truth. “Jesus Christ Lives”

Why isn’t anyone asking what qualifications a gay male would have as a judge for a female beauty contest? And did he make up his own questions or did someone else. Looks like he was just wanting his moment in the spotlight.

Francine Prejean, shame on you. She answered your question from her heart and I guess in American free speech is gone. Some do still believe in God and follow the teaching of Jesus. You may not but it is a free country, or used to be.

What the heck is a gay guy doing judging a contest for females anyway? He only came there to pull some gay trash out of the event.

On the other hand She is no role model either. Everyone makes mistakes and she made hers having those pictures taken. I don’t think I want her as a role model for my girls. Pretty, Yes. Not bad pictures for an actress. But then again they are not good for the job she wanted.

First, homosexuality IS A CHOICE. All behavior is a choice. To this day there is no clinical or empirical proof that being homosexual is inborn. The public has been indoctrinated into this belief. Science has been altererd to JUSTIFY homosexuality, but not prove it’s origins.

So your “Christian” home allows your teen daughter to pose topless? I’ll take gay marriage any day over softcore kiddy porn.

Rick May 12, 2009, 8:44 PM

What would have been better answere for her to say it’s ok that we don’t need moral values in country everyone should take on the ol’ saying “If it feels good just do it” I am tired of this crap, we who believe in this country and believe it is going down. What ever happen to you America, How can we just sit by and allow this to happen? has we so far we don’t know who we are. as for you gays if you feel like this kind of life you want keep it in the closet I don’t want you or your life style in my hood.

We do still live in a Christian country—-Wish every one that felt a need to say something here—-would just ask Heavenly Father what He thinks of all of us—-Who knows what is right or wrong without going to our knees or if You prefer —just simply bow your head & ask Him

I strongly support the right of any adult, regardless of gender, to marry another adult, again regardless of gender.

That being said, I think those who are on BOTH sides of this issue need to go back and listen carefully to Carrie Prejean’s reply to Perez’s question. To me, it sounded like she was attempting to say that she had no problem with same-sex marriage at large, but she personally did not agree with it.

I’m still very much a happy Sigma customer, and I’ll continue to buy their products as long as they continue to offer the service I’ve gotten so far.

I think it was terribly unfair of Hilton Perez to ask this or any other beauty pageant bimbo such a question. Any question more cerebral than “What’s your favorite color?” is cruel.

glesh May 12, 2009, 8:53 PM

I think that judge is a liar. Speaking to God puts him on a level with the Angels. I think not. He probably is a evil person for not thinking she had her freedom of speech.

Isittimeyet May 12, 2009, 8:54 PM

Geez! How about all this…a number a years ago a black lady lost her crown for nude photos. I thought we had come a long way…but today I white lady gets to keep hers…thanks to Mr Trump. By the way…who is the only and final judge of this contest..so what did you expect. All in all…RULES ARE RULES…and if not followed are worthless…kinda like Trump and Hilton. And that Hilton dude…errr gal…what ever…He he is just another one of those gay people trying to cash in..and using what ever he thinks he is..man..woman..inbetween..to get it. Again..bottom line…Rules are Rules..play be em. You to Trump and Hilton. PS…you gotta know that she bedded Trump down anyway…lol

I’m so sick of “Christianity” telling us what we should do, think, be and believe. I happen to believe in Freedom of Speech. I also happen to believe that two people have any right they want to get married; after all, who does it possibly hurt if two people find love and marry? I DON’T believe that people should have 8 kids while I pay taxes for them, or that the Pentagon should spend $18,000 on a hammer, or that my taxes should bail out million dollar bonused CEOs. I’m switching to Buddhism or something. I can’t take this Christianity stuff, holier-than-thou, sin, sin, sin ridiculousness.

Paradise May 12, 2009, 8:54 PM

Miss California and her mom are in the right. If she would have answered the question the way the “Gay Judge” wanted her to, we would not be in this situation. She has every right to stand by her answer. She has her crown in heaven and the “Gay Judge, well let’s hope he likes hot weather…..

Fernwell May 12, 2009, 8:54 PM

Just one question….what are the rules for? Not for Christians, I gather.
