Chef Nikki Shaw: Anyone who knows me knows that I'm constantly in search of great food, fun, and adventure! I'm on overload this month, going to all the L.A. Laker games during the play-offs. My favorite courtside couple is Denzel Washington and his extremely cool wife, Pauletta.

Denzel told me that one day Pauletta asked him if she could hire a chef. He responded with "WHAT FOR! You cook better than any old chef I know!" She smiled from ear to ear when he told that story. He loves when she makes her famous fried chicken with macaroni and cheese. It feels good when people appreciate your cooking.

"NIK TIP": Pay close attention to what the special person in your life really loves (this goes for the guys, too). If they love frozen Mango Margaritas, buy a blender. If they love juicy BBQ chicken, fire-up the grill. Maybe your special person will occasionally return the favor and spoil you back.
