Mom Told Breastfeeding Violates Pool's Food Ban

FOX: A woman breast-feeding her 3-month-old son at a public pool was told to stop because she was breaking the pool's rules that ban food or drink near the water, London's Daily Mail reported.
"You are in a public area, you can't breast-feed here because there are children here," she said a lifeguard told her.
Whotton said she was offered a private room to feed Joshua, but she declined the offer, because she wanted to keep an eye on her older son Thomas, who was still swimming in the pool.
Whotton, 26, filed a complaint with the Nottingham City Council.
"The council's policy is to enable mothers to breastfeed in all council centers, including leisure centers," said a spokesman for the local authority. "The only exception to this rule at leisure centers is in the swimming pool and surrounding area, where in the interest of safety and hygiene, there is a policy of no food and drink. The rule also covers breast-feeding, as it would bottle feeding of a baby."
The council has since offered a full apology and amended its breast-feeding policy after the incident.

This has to be the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard…Like seriously is this for real….LMAO
Honestly, I would be grossed out if I saw some woman’s nipple leaking in the water.
I definetely would NOT go in there.
That’s just gross. Couldn’t she have sat on a lounger BESIDE the pool, what makes it her right to do it IN the water?
Really, really gross.
This is why I avoid public pools, lowclass people like this, (and no doubt their children are the ones peeing in the pool!) who make it a disgusting experience for everyone.
*gag*
No where does it say that she was in the water.
Kitty, it doesn’t say she was in the pool. She was pool-side.
As far as not bringing food or drink to the pool … was she supposed to leave her breasts at home? I read the article about this in the Daily Mail and the woman was completely covered with towels. The pool attendant couldn’t really tell what she was doing. Absolutely ridiculous to make an issue out of this.
That’s it — no breasts at the pool! Ever! You never know when those things could contain food or drink!
Wow what a load of crapola!
kitty—what are you, like 17?
P.S. Read more carefully.
oh my! that poor woman. i would be very very upset. i feed my baby wherever i go. i’ve learned to be very modest so as not to offend anyone. i’m glad they are changing their policies. i mean i can under stand food or drink for spilling reasons, but a woman’s breast isn’t likely to leak that much, nor is it likely to break on the concrete surrounding the pool. unacceptable policy.
a similar thing happen to me at Jcpenny. I was told there is no food or drink allowed in the dressing rooms. I felt so embarrassed. She said it all loud and disgusted. I didn’t even know what to say. I wish I would of done something.
Kitty, it’s so sad that you think that way.
I am completely appaled by this story! Breastfeeding is completely natural- what was she supposed to do, let her baby go hungry?
Kitty, maybe you weren’t breastfed as a baby. That would explain the low IQ.
I love that she was told “you cannot breast feed here because there are children here”. I find that to be funny. Breasts do not offend children!

This shouldn’t even be an issue! Ridiculous!!
