Lucy Riles: To give your mom a day she will never forget, here are some tips that will make any mother feel like a star!

mothers day mom on red carpet with flowers

Buy her favorite flowers: There's a reason Mother's Day is the busiest day of the year for florists ... every mother loves receiving flowers! Pick up some of your mom's favorites (my mom loved daisies). If that particular flower comes in different colors, buy them in her favorite color. If you don't already know your mom's favorite flower and color, now is a good time to find out!

While she sleeps: Place a small bouquet of flowers next to her nightstand, have another one in her bathroom, another in the kitchen, on the patio, in the living room ... If you are on a budget, use a single flower instead of a small bouquet and place them throughout the house. To every stem or small bouquet, attach little letters of adoration. Remember, she is a star, so write all the reasons you love and adore her on each little letter. Today is the day to pamper your mom so be sure to have the coffee hot, breakfast cooking, and the dining room table set before she wakes up!

Gifts for the star: Stars receive gifts all the time, so make sure your mom has a few gifts to open. Maybe a nice outfit she can wear that day, maybe a pretty necklace the whole family chipped in for, maybe a box of her favorite chocolates, maybe a voucher for a family portrait ... you know your mom better than I do, so buy her something she will love! Mom's Academy Awards
: What is a star without an awards ceremony? Prior to Mother's Day, have each family member write an award for your mom with a brief description of why she deserves it (i.e., "Best Leading Lady," "Best Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes," "Best Heart"). The awards can be homemade, so for example, give her a red, heart-shaped award for "Best Heart." If there's more than one mom in the family, all the more awards to give! Have a good time with this -- people can dress up in suits and gowns or go casual. Make the funny one in the family the host, and each family member a presenter. After everyone presents their individual awards to Mom, make sure to give out honorary awards to each member of the family -- no one should feel left out. My mom did this for my family a few years back and we absolutely loved it! To this day, everyone remembers what award they received ... I won the "GTLTB Award." Being the baby of 12 children, GTLTB stood for "Got to Love the Baby."

Paparazzi in the house: You know you are a star when the paparazzi start following you around, so assign one of your family members to be the paparazzi for the day, taking shots of every detail, expression, and reaction.

A final keepsake: Create an album with all the letters, awards, and photos ... this way your mom will never forget the day she became a star!

What award would you give your mom, and why?

What a unique idea!! I am hosting a cookout this weekend for all the moms in my family….so I will try to use some of these ideas. I am getting them all a hanging basket of flowers. What mom doesn’t love flowers!

I think this is an amazing idea! This would absolutely make my mom feel as special as she is to us kids. I love the awards ceremony idea and then making an album of the whole day for a keepsake just tops it all off perfectly!

This sounds freaking exhausting. I would kill my kids if they did this to me. The ideal mother’s day to me is spending more time with my kids.
