Parents Say No to Blood for Baby

WANE: The parents of a premature baby are staying true to their religious beliefs and refusing a blood transfusion for their anemic infant. A judge's court order has overruled their decision but the parents are still fighting to keep it from happening.
According to court documents, the infant, known only as "Baby Girl Binns"was born at Dupont Hospital on May 14th. She was more than two months early and is anemic.
Doctors say she'll need at least one blood transfusion, if not more, to stay alive. But that's not a course of treatment the parents believe in and will allow.
"We're not about to take blood, because the bible says abstain from blood," explained Richard Dellinger, an elder in the Jehovah's Witness Church in Fort Wayne.
Dellinger serves as a hospital liaison and refers to a passage in Acts to justify their belief in not taking blood.
"In Acts 15, verse 29, it says to abstain from blood," said Dellinger.
Court documents say that belief led the parents to refuse a transfusion for their baby girl.
Friday, DuPont hospital petitioned a judge to overrule that decision. A judge has granted the request, but so far, it hasn't been needed.
The girl's family sought out alternative treatments that seem to be working.
"The blood levels in this child are improving and we're taking advantage of what is available so as to avoid the transfusion," Dellinger told NewsChannel 15.
But even if it does come down to that, Dellinger says the parents have done their part and won't be held accountable by God.
He says,"The parents took their stand and they've demonstrated that they are faithful in their belief in God and in their stand on this issue."
Knocks at the parent's door went unanswered Wednesday afternoon.
"Baby Girl Binns" remains in the neonatal intensive care unit at Dupont Hospital.

Simple fact-The Bible does not prohibit Blood transfusions. If you are bleeding to death it is more dangerous to refuse a blood transfusions than to take one.
Bloodless surgeries are great if they can be elective.1/3rd of all trauma deaths are from blood loss.
Jehovah’s Witnesses elders will investigate and disfellowship any Jehovah Witness who takes a blood transfusion,to say the issue is a ‘personal conscience matter’ is subterfuge to keep the Watchtower out of lawsuits..
Jehovah’s Witnesses children die every year worldwide due to blood transfusion ban.Rank & file Jehovah’s Witness are indoctrinated to be scared to death of blood
FYI
1) JW’s DO USE many parts aka ‘fractions’ aka components of blood,so if it’s ‘sacred’ to God why the hypocritical contradiction flip-flop?
2) They USE blood collections that are donated by Red Cross and others but don’t donate back, more hypocrisy.
Jehovah’s Witnesses use thousands and thousands of pints of blood donated by others. They use 60% of the blood volume as broken down “fractions” then go on Bible thumping rants about how dangerous and sinful blood transfusions are.
( JW do allow organ transplants which has more risk than whole blood transfusions so their arguments of disease transmission is bogus)
The Watchtower’s rules against blood transfusions will eventually be abolished (very gradually to reduce wrongful death lawsuit liability) even now most of the blood ‘components’ are allowed.
They are such hypocrites!

It may be this time, this baby can do without a transfusion.
Everybody, everywhere knows about the many Jehovah’s Witnesses including many children who have died as a direct result of rejecting a life saving blood transfusion. The Watchtower society cult has in the past applauded these *martyrs for Jehovah*.
”This is so sad… the parents would rather see their child die because of what the bible says”
did you not read the section that says they have been trying ALTERNATIVE treatments that have been working?
There is more to it than rejecting it because ‘the bible says to’ it has to deal with the risks of blood transfers such as Allergic reaction, Febrile reaction, Transfusion-related acute lung injury, Acute immune hemolytic reaction,Delayed hemolytic reaction, and infections.
I myself am not a jehovas witness, but I understand fully the affects of a blood transfusion, and I see the parents as wanting to protect their child.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I have chosen to follow the Bibles command to abstain from blood. One of the above posters brings up a valid point about Witnesses accepting blood fractions. Why do some Jehovah’s Witnesses accept blood fractions? Since God says through his word the Bible that blood is to be held as sacred and should not be misused. What constitutes misuse? When does the fractionalization of blood make it no longer considered blood? When the Bible doesn’t specifically speak of a particular action as being bad or cast it in a bad light, then it’s our job as individuals to pray over the matter and use our conscience to decide. The Bible doesn’t speak of blood fractions. It says to abstain from blood, but many components of blood fractions can come from other sources. All of these questions have been discussed in many of our publications. And since this isn’t a forum to discuss such a deep subject, please visit www.watchtower.org to research this subject for YOURSELF so that way YOU can make an informed decision, not based on what I say, or anyone above me has said, but based on what God says through the Bible.
A persons beliefs are their beliefs. although i am no longer a jehovahs witness, i was raised as one. I have known people (adults) who have refused the blood transfusion, but their family got court orders and rulings to make them recieve them. on both cases those people died. now if these parents go agianst their beliefs and give their daughter blood who is to say that it will save her? if this is such a “free” country y are they being forced and judged because they dont want to do what the masses believe??? I am sure this family has felt in their heart some sort of conflict with what they should do…dont judge. who is to say the all the sugar, and soda and tv that parents expose their children to, wont affect them in the future….only the Most High can judge…

This is so sad… the parents would rather see their child die because of what the bible says… (or what they interpret the bible to say). The Harry Potter books say I can do magic, so should I wave my magic wand in my refridgerator to make dinner?
I believe in a higher power, but I also believe in saving my child.
