NY Post: A newborn girl was found alive in a shoebox at the entrance to a Hempstead, LI, apartment building, cops said yesterday.

A breathing hole had been cut in the lid, and the baby's umbilical cord was tied with dental floss.

The 5-pound, 7-ounce girl, who is believed to be Hispanic, is in stable condition at Nassau University Medical Center.

"She's doing well. She is feeding very nicely," said medical officer Tim Jaccard.

Police ask that anyone with information on the parents' identities call (800) 244-TIPS.
