Father's Day Fiesta!

Lucy Riles: Celebrate Father's Day with great food, décor, and good times ... without spending the big bucks! Here's how.

Fiesta Decor: Display framed photos of Dad as centerpieces ... have shots of him through the years with his kids, his father, his grandfather. Use this opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful men and fathers in your life. Cover all the tables with a roll of white paper tablecloth, then leave boxes of crayons and markers out so everyone can draw pictures and messages to Dad. Instead of balloons, decorate with tissue paper pom-poms. To make these, simply take eight pieces of tissue paper, accordion fold them (about an inch and a half thick) like you are making a fan, then tie it in the middle with clear fishing line and pull each tissue apart, one tissue at a time ... these are colorful, chic, and much more eco-friendly than balloons. Fiestas always have beautiful, bright flowers, so take a trip to your local farmers market and pick up a few bouquets to make your party pop!
Father's Day Feast: Set up a taco station with all the fixings for your guests so they can help themselves. Does your dad love to grill? Have him grill up some steak or chicken fajitas and veggie kabobs. Nothing says fiesta like some tasty margaritas, mojitos, and Coronas ... serve lemonade with fresh lemon wedges to the kids as the non-alcoholic signature drink!
Musica: Hire a mariachi band ... or not -- just play some on your iPod! Either way, you will want to set the mood for your fiesta.
Fun Factor for Dad: As the main attraction, hang a big piñata in the middle of the party. Fill it with "Dad" gear like socks, golf balls, duct tape, beef jerky, slippers, his favorite candy, and more. If your dad loves golf, have him use a golf club to hit the piñata down. If he loves baseball, have him use a bat. If he loves shooting pool, have him use a pool stick -- you know your dad better than I do, what would he love?! The more personal the better! If you have kids attending your fiesta, stuff an additional piñata full of treats and toys for them to enjoy!

If he loves football…have him tackle the pinata from 20 yards out! LOL! What a great idea! My dad would LOVE a pinata filled with golf balls and fishing gear. He would get such a hoot out of that idea. Plus he LOVES to grill and have a margarita or two. Great ideas always!!
