KMBC: A team of 13-year-old boys turned in their red baseball jerseys for pink ones on Thursday.

The team stepped out onto the field with pride and a purpose -- to honor one mother's fight against breast cancer.

"We have pink jerseys for my mom because she has breast cancer," said Austin, the son of Kay Michaud.

Michaud was diagnosed with breast cancer on St. Patrick's Day. She underwent a double mastectomy on April 15, and she is undergoing chemotherapy.

"He was scared at first. We cried a lot together, but he's OK because he sees I'm OK," Michaud told KMBC's Lara Moritz.

Her son, his coaches and teammates decided to wear pink jerseys to raise awareness about breast cancer and to show how much they care.

"It was really cool. She was amazed by it. It feels really good to be wearing this," Austin said.

"I was totally shocked," Michaud said. "I've just had so many people praying for me. It makes a huge difference -- it really helps me get through everything."

They are urging people to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen foundation or to Touched By Cancer Foundation.
