Real Housewife of NYC Bethenny Frankel thinks there's a skinny girl in all of us -- all we have to do is think thin! She talks to momlogic about her book, her bod, and the drama with Kelly.
Reality star, chef, and author Bethenny Frankel's got a thing or two to say about food, and she wants you moms out there to know that you no longer have to diet to lose weight. She herself struggled with dieting and over-exercising. Then something changed: She became a chef, prepping natural, healthy meals for Hollywood's A-listers, and grew tired of her "food noise." Now, the brassy and sassy Real Housewife of New York City skinny girl's got a new book out, Naturally Thin, and is sharing her newfound freedom with the world. That, and she's got something to say about the other ladies on the show ...
ML: Your book is not a diet book, but it doesn't encourage one to eat much either. How can moms relate when they are trying to set good examples for their kids?
Bethenny: Naturally Thin encourages food not being your best friend or enemy, and shows girls how they can indulge in a variety of foods without obsessing over any one food or food moment.
ML: What about if we're totally starving or going out to dinner? How does the "picking" idea apply?
Bethenny: When I see George Clooney in a bar, I don't propose immediately. I make a plan. Do the same with food. If you didn't "spoil your appetite" with a good investment snack, then brace yourself. Eat a high-fiber salad or soup to fill up on less, rather than ripping at the bread basket. Have some water before alcohol so you don't drink calories out of hunger or thirst.
ML: Do you have "cheat" days?
Bethenny: There's no such thing as cheating. Anything forbidden or guilt-inducing is the reason why Americans are so afraid with food. Naturally Thin teaches you to have a good relationship with food. This isn't a marriage and eating a cookie isn't sleeping around.
ML: How can moms incorporate healthier choices into their kids' diets?
Bethenny: With trust and creativity. I just finished experimenting with a healthy chicken pot pie and green bean casserole. I make healthier mac and cheese, pizza, cookies. Substitute white flour for wheat, white sugar for raw sugar, fat with bananas and other fruit. Don't make excuses. Eliminate packaged foods and save money.
ML: You've got quite a bod. What do you do to work out?
Bethenny: I love yoga, and I do it because of how it makes me feel. I work out an average of twice a week. I have turned off my "exercise noise" so I always go back to it rather than beating myself up and not going at all. My obsessive exercise past has probably given me a good base so my body remembers. Eating is the dress, and exercising is the accessory you need to make the dress work.
ML: On a different note, what is wrong with Kelly's face? Something is off ...
Bethenny: Something is off with every part of Kelly.
ML: What can we expect next season? More Kelly vs. Bethenny drama?
Bethenny: There will be no more drama with me regarding Kelly. During the show, I was just starting to realize that she is stark raving mad, so I sat there to watch. But I have seen enough.
