Silent Partners

What would you do if you couldn't tell him you loved him for what might be the last time?
The husbands, wives, and partners of an estimated 65,000 gay men and women currently serving in the military on active duty know exactly what that feels like.
Now in its second season, the docu-series "In Their Boots" will air an episode next month addressing the issue of gays and lesbians in the military -- and their so-called "Silent Partners" at home.
Thousands of men and women have been discharged due to "don't ask, don't tell," at a time in which the military is spread thin between two wars in the Middle East. Nearly half of those discharged under "don't ask, don't tell" are women.
Last week, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal from a former army captain attempting to challenge "don't ask, don't tell." The jury's still out on whether President Obama plans to make good on his campaign promise to work to end the controversial policy.
Do you think "don't ask, don't tell" should be overturned?
Nicci, I agree 100% with what you have said. Let them serve openly. My husband has served 16yrs in the military and we both think it SHOULD be overturned.
I firmly believe sexual orientation should not be a factor for the military we need all great people who are willing to serve to protect this great country.
It should be overturned. I just fear alittle for what could happen right after it is overturned. People can be so mean and I would hate for our guys and girls to get hurt by our own people just because they “came out”. God Bless ALL men and women who serve our country and keep us safe!

As the child of two Air Force Veterans and the granddaughter of another one I believe wholeheartedly it SHOULD be overturned. Why are we turning away valued members of the armed forces simply b/c of their sexual orientation? If we don’t care who the heterosexual members are sleeping with why is it anybody’s business who the homosexual members are sleeping with. Let their families come out and be able to support them openly.
