Hello Ellen: While doing yard work on Saturday, I was reflecting on your Mother’s Day show which aired on Friday. What an exciting time it is to be an expecting mother. It’s time for having baby showers and picking out baby names. I was a young mother having my first child at the age of nineteen and two more children by the time I was twenty-four (all boys). Maybe because I was young, I don’t remember focusing much on the day to day challenges of raising children, I just took it one day at a time. I loved and enjoyed the boys as they were growing up, but at the time, I didn’t zoom in on who they were. Now that I am older I wished I would have paid more attention. With the tremendous and unconditional love of a step-dad (my husband for soon to be 30 years of marriage) the boys have all turned out to be great young men and I am so proud of them. Today I am fortunate to have five grandchildren (three boys and two girls). Today I am paying very close attention to who they are and how precious they are. It doesn’t get much better than being a grandparent. I am writing this letter because of the video you showed of the little boy in the diaper and red tee shirt doing the hoola hoop. His name is J. C. Easley and he is my grandson. On January 29, 2009, J.C. was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). J.C. is being treated at Children’s Medical Center Dallas and is getting excellent care by the doctors, nurses and staff. The doctors tell us (with what will be about three years of treatment) J.C. is expected to make a full recovery. Children are life’s perfect gift. Let your moms and soon to be moms know they need to pay attention and focus on their children each and every day. As you can tell from J.C.’s video, he was a little boy with lots and lots of energy and then one day it was gone (thankfully in J.C.’s case he is going to get it back). Life goes so fast. Let’s rememeber to hug and kiss our children often. Thanks for listening. To learn more about J. C. visit his web site at http://www.caringbirdge.org/visit/jceasley Marion C.Hebbler P.S.: If I was speaking to you and not
