New York Daily News: A zany former "American Idol" contestant dubbed "Glitter Girl" was found dead in a New Jersey shore town Saturday, the victim of a hit-run accident.

Alexis Cohen
The battered body of Alexis Cohen, 25, was discovered along a road in Seaside Heights about 4 a.m. by two passersby, authorities said.

Paramedics fought to save Cohen's life before she was rushed to Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J., where she was pronounced dead about 6:35 a.m.

"It appeared she sustained multiple injuries as a result of a motor vehicle hitting her and leaving the scene," Michael Mohel, deputy chief of the Ocean County prosecutor's office, told the Daily News.

Mohel said Cohen sustained injuries to her chest, head and abdomen.

Cohen's car was found in a lot about 300 yards from her body along Dupont Ave. near Bay Blvd.

Mohel said Cohen, who lives in Allentown, Pa., had been in Seaside Heights, a popular beach destination, since Thursday. Police are still trying to track down the driver.

Cohen became best known for her rambling, obscenity-laced tirade at judge Simon Cowell following her "Idol" audition in January 2008.

After comparing her voice to Pat Benatar and Janis Joplin, the curly-haired, glitter-covered Cohen sang Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody to Love."

The judges, most notably Cowell, weren't impressed, advising Cohen she'd be better off trying out for a cover band.

"How dare a person mock someone like that?" an incensed Cohen said afterward. "Excuse me, you sir, suck."

She then waved her middle fingers at the camera and snarled, "Simon, if I could legally moon you, I would."

The next day, Cohen made the rounds of the morning talk shows.

Her glitter gone and her style more glamorous, Cohen returned to the show the following season, boasting a whole new attitude.

She sang Madonna's "Like a Prayer," but her performance was panned again.

After Cowell told her she "actually got worse," Cohen smiled and politely thanked him.

She then added, "I don't know what else to do except give you the finger."

She flipped him the bird yet again.

The aspiring entertainer was reportedly studying to be a veterinarian at Montgomery County Community College.

Her 2007 "American Idol" interview became a YouTube sensation.

Awash in glitter and wearing dangling, brightly colored star earrings, Cohen proclaimed: "I march to a beat of a different drummer."

"I like the fact that people look at me [like I have] 12 heads," Cohen added.

She described living in a studio apartment with her mother, where she sleeps on a couch.

"Judges, I plan to knock you off your feet," Cohen boasted. "America, I couldn't do this without you. ... Always have true faith, and always be victorious."

After she was rejected the first time, the husky-voiced singer vowed that she would someday achieve fame.

"I'm going to rock the world," Cohen said. "I'm going to show you guys that I can be victorious. I'll make it one day. One day, somehow, someway."
