PETA Puts Fake Blood in Happy Meals?

Green Daily: So, remember how Andy Dick dressed up as a knife-wielding parody of childhood icon, Ronald McDonald, as part of a PETA demonstration? Well there's more!

PETA has an ongoing vendetta against McDonald's, basically involving food sourcing. They want Mickey D's to get their chickens from poultry suppliers who use the cruelty-free controlled atmosphere killing.

Sure, PETA's right, it would be better for the chickens. And better for us because it would eliminate PETA's need to hold "scalding tank demonstrations" with tanks of bloody water in public places.

But does PETA take the opportunity to have a reasoned conversation with the fast food giant? No! Not when there's an opportunity to smear "blood" everywhere! The latest effort is an "Unhappy Meal" that is just so over-the-top theatrical, it's almost impossible to describe. But here, let me try:

the aforementioned Killer Klown Ronald McDonald

"blood" stained box

pictures of mutilated and scalded-alive chickens

a packet of "blood" (which ironically is probably mainly ketchup)

a paper cutout of their scary Killer Klown version of Ronald McDonald that has an "I'm Hatin' it" logo on it

a "Chicken McCruelty" t-shirt

Just for fun, they also included information about how eating at McDonald's give you diabetes. Yup, that's bonus info.

Here's the wacky thing -- I couldn't find a way to get one of those Unhappy Meals. I mean, I don't want a packet of not-blood, but I bet there are plenty of people out there who do. And it's just a cruel tease to show all of the nutso contents of a box like that, and then not make it available to the public for purchase. Do they just hand them out on the street?

On the other hand, it's probably a good thing you can't buy those things at Walgreens. Imagine the traumatized child who accidentally opens an Unhappy Meal and finds a bloody chicken. Scarred. For. Life.

I’m a vegetarian and I cannot stand for a corporation that smears blood on children’s Happy Meals to express a cause. I believe, however, some of their points on the treatment of animals in mills can be justifiable but pushing your ideas to the point of disgust with no pretense on the possible psychological damage they could be causing our smallest and most innocent of people is just shameful.
I admit slaughtering an animal for human consumption is no pretty sight, but proving you are no more civilized than the abusers is apparent in their scheme’s by placing half naked women on the street and harassing the folk who, simply choose to consume meat as if its some kind of crime is ridiculous. We are all entitled to our opinions, and Peta, your opinion is respected, just stop shoving it down poor citizens throats. If we want your religion we will read your bible.

I really really want to be able to root for PETA, but I just can’t do it. I think they’ve all lost their minds. They come across as terrorists and I can’t support that.

PETA is a joke anyway.

Just Sayin' July 16, 2009, 6:32 PM

I second what Gail said. In order to protect the animals, they are terrorizing the humans. Sad.

I agree with what Gail said as well. These guys go over the top to much, it’s just a huge act to me, PETA is a joke with weirdos in it.

Rosie- this is incorrect: “I’m a vegetarian and I cannot stand for a corporation that smears blood on children’s Happy Meals to express a cause.”

The article didn’t state this
