I never understood this line of thinking..how about having a conversation with your kids!?!? Perhaps a quick game of tic-tac-toe or connect the dots initial game to re-direct their attention. And my family (kids are 2, 8, & 12) eats out about once a week. And like at home, we all sit at the table, talk and laugh with one another, and use our manners to eat a family dinner.

My hubby and I take our daughter everywhere. She’s well-mannered (she’s 3 by the way) loves telling us about what so-and-so did at daycare and (recently) what her favorite shows taught her. She’s big on the sharing thing after learning about it on Dibo. Elo was apparently being selfish that episode. Most places have little activity pads and crayons for kids to entertain themselves. And you’re right calimommy, engaging in conversation with your kids should be all the entertainment they need. Really, if they wanted to play you could just stay home.

I for one don’t have perfect children all of the time, so I am all for any idea that makes situations, like restaurants, more enjoyable for everyone (including the people around us). At 2 and 4, each visit is different. And though I often get compliments on how well behaved my children are, they each have days we would rather forget. Thanks for the ideas!
