Addicted to 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta'
The premiere was not to be missed ... here's why!
Diane Mizota: As grown women, mothers, and business women, you would think that the catty social dynamics of high school are far behind us. Think again. "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" are back and keeping the drama of high school alive and well, and if the premiere is any indication, it's looking to be the best season of "Housewives" yet.
They may be slightly older than high school and have bigger houses and fancier cars, but trust me, the drama is the same. Fake, selfish, catty, gossipy, she-said-what-about-who rumors, wig-pulling, husband-trashing ... oooh child, this season is shaping up to be as juicy as a Georgia peach.
Bravo's "Real Housewives" franchise is always a fascinating look into rich, tony enclaves of women, who know how to stir up plenty of drama, and the Atlanta housewives are no different, except that they are predominantly African-American. These ladies know how to deliver plenty of excess, plenty of tension, and they prove that drama comes in all colors. Here's the scoop, in case you missed it:
Kandi, the latest addition to the cast, is a successful songwriter and singer and single mom. She is about to marry a man with 6 kids, and is recording her solo album. Sheree has just finalized her divorce, and is moving ahead with her fashion line by throwing a huge "Independence" party for herself. Lisa is trying for a second baby with her unemployed NFL husband. NeNe and Sheree buried the hatchet from their conflict last season, and Kim, the wig-wearing ex-girlfriend of Big Poppa, is shaping up to be the villain/outcast of the ATL clique, all while starting her own wig line. That's right, I said wig line.
Anyone can see that it's completely juvenile and catty and high school, but also undeniably engrossing. I mean, once you start watching, you can't look away. It's just the glossiest, best-dressed train wreck on television ...
