Old, energy-sucking appliances (that suck) are the next target for some stimulus cash.
Is your refrigerator running? No, it's not that classic prank call from when we were kids -- it's a question of whether it's time to finally ditch your old appliances for newer, more energy-efficient models. If you're in the market for some kitchen upgrades, your timing couldn't be better.
As Cash for Clunkers draws to a close, a new incentive program is in line to give our failing economy a jump start. This fall, people purchasing large kitchen appliances will be the recipients of some much-needed stimulus.
The program will give consumers rebates of $50 to $200 for purchases of high-efficiency household appliances like fridges, stoves and washer and dryers. The Department of Energy plans to dole out $300K to those of us still saddled with energy-sucking appliances in hideous 70s colors like "avocado" and "mustard." Since old appliances are basically worthless, the "cash for appliances" program doesn't require a trade-in to qualify for a rebate.

So the fridges don’t have to be exchanged huh? So those people that just will get a new one with some aid money can just put that “energy sucking” one down in the basement/garage? seems a little pointless unless they take the old junky one!! Duh….
Great! Another way to take money my wife and I earned for our family and give it to someone else without our permission. Houses, cars, and now appliances are being subsidized. What scheme will be next to pull resources from my family. This money comes from somewhere… Think about it!
I think we should have a national bake sale with all the new ovens to pay for it!

Figures. We traded in an old guzzler for a new sipper…in October of 08. Our fridge went on the fritz last week so we *had* to get a new one (well, I suppose we could eat out all the time but that’s not very cost efficient).
