99 Cent Wedding, Anyone?

I never thought I would be saying this, but in our tireless search to save a buck or two, have we gone too far?

99 cent store front

Recession Mama: It has come to my attention that the 99 cents only store in Beverly Hills, Calif. (I know, I know, that's a whole other blog.) will be offering 99 cent weddings on September 9, 2009. An ordained minister will be present to conduct the ceremony. Table decorations AND BRIDAL GOWNS will be created from items in the store. I'm picturing Fruit of the Loom undershirts fashioned into some sort of sarong and a roll of Sparkle paper towels for the veil. Maybe a bouquet made from business-size envelopes.

What about the food? I have the 99 cent store cookbook and there's not much I would want to make from it, let alone serve at a wedding. Good God -- is this the end of civilization as we know it? Don't get me wrong -- although it appeals to my kitschy side, something about just doesn't sit quite right. But hey, if it's for you, call (323) 881-1247 before August 24 and you may be one of the lucky nine chosen!

Oh, people do ridiculous weddings in Vegas all the time. The only thing that shocked me is that I wouldn’t have expected it from the store in Beverly Hills.

First time brides probably aren’t going the 99 cent only wedding route, but maybe people on a second trip down the aisle want it down the aisle at the 99 cent only store.

I moved back to Iowa from Los Angeles and we don’t have 99 cent only stores here and I miss it! I used to walk to the one by my house at least once a week, if not more! And I don’t have the cookbook, but I think it sound hilarious!

Interesting info! Good to read. There is one point to make about t-shirts.
