I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing when getting my baby ready for her bath and bedtime. What general "dos and don'ts" can you share?

While bubbles and toys make it fun to get clean, there are a few tips to keep in mind when getting your baby settled for her bath and bedtime.

  • You always want to make sure to supervise bath time! Accidents can happen in an instant, so be very aware.
  • Be sure to check the temperature of the water with your elbow to make sure it's warm to the touch, but never ever hot.
  • Always use mild soap and a tear-free baby shampoo that won't sting the eyes.
  • When settling your baby down for a nap or bedtime, place him in the crib on his back, and never on his stomach, to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  • Never leave a bottle in the crib at night, especially with juice or a sugary drink that can cause tooth decay.
  • Lastly, don't leave blankets, toys, or anything loose or soft in the crib overnight. These items can increase the risk of suffocation.
