PiscesFather Fatally Stabs Children and Himself
Witnesses say she ran out of the apartment screaming, saying her children were dead.
The children have been identified as 12-year-old Jason Mulvaney and 7-year-old Jennifer Mulvaney, according to Sheriff's spokesman Capt. Ross Bonfiglio.
The father was identified as James Mulvaney.
Detectives say the father stabbed the two children and then killed himself using some other type of weapon.
Detectives were awaiting autopsy results to confirm exactly what happened.
Ventura County sheriff's Detective Eric Buschow described the scene as "gruesome."
He said there was "no reason to believe" that there was a murder suspect on the loose.
Detectives interviewed the children's mother, Julie Mulvaney.
Detectives say the woman and her ex-husband recently divorced and were involved in some sort of court battle -- possibly over the custody of the children.
It's believed Jason attended Los Cerritos Middle School in Thousand Oaks.
A school psychologist was on hand and apparently following his schedule throughout the day, talking with students about grief.
The principal also announced that a student had died, but did not identify the student.
