Parents of Missing Girl Blame Police

The cops released a 24-year-old woman into the night from a remote substation. Now, they're trying to find her as the parents of Mitrice Richardson ratchet up their charges that authorities never should have let her go to begin with.
When Mitrice Richardson could not pay her $89 bill at a Malibu restaurant, the police were called. When deputies arrived, they searched Richardson's car and impounded it after finding a small amount of marijuana. They arrested Richardson for possession of marijuana and not paying her bill, and took her 13 miles away to the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's station. Her car remained at the restaurant.
Police say Richardson was released on her own recognizance at 1:30 AM September 18. She hasn't been seen or heard from by her family since. Richardson's parents say she should never have been released at that hour with no transportation or money.
Police deny any wrongdoing. A sheriff's department spokesman declined to go on the air, but told NBC News that Mitrice Richardson is an adult, and there was no reason to keep her in custody after charging her because she showed no signs of being intoxicated.
But her family says there is no justification for allowing her to leave at that hour in an area with which the young woman was unfamiliar.

At this time, Mitrice Richardson is still missing.
Do you think the police were in the wrong in this case? Comment below.
Okay, let me see if I got this right? A drunk young woman couldnt pay an $89 bill. Why not? Could it be that someone seeing her so intoxicated, picked her wallet, took her money, and she was just as surprised to not have money to pay also? Mitrice is a professional, upwardly mobile, otherwise good citizen. I doubt seriously that she left home alone with no money.
Also, who did she meet there? Hang with? Is the restaurant so sure that she alone ran up that bill? Who made her the fall guy? More than anything, she did not walk out on the check! She did not run, did not go to the ladies room and keep on walking. As drunk as she is supposed to have been, she was cooperative enough to wait on the police and that without making a scene about it — which, I suppose that if she was a con and a crook she very well might have.
Now, about the police… how was Mitrice so drunk at the restaurant, yet sober enough to be released onto the streets with no money remember, and her only means of transportation out of the oceanside hills being left 13 miles away at the restaurant? Did she get her one phone call? Did she have an offer to sleep til daybreak in the lobby? What happened to the initial story of full to capacity which turned out to be only one other detainee? Where were the female deputies called in the handle this woman? Most of all, how the hell was Mitrice drunk out of her mind but sobers up in a 13 mile drive?
There were earlier reports of neighbors complaining about a woman sleeping on their porches. Hmmmm. Which perverse mind let her in to never be seen again? Or, did she ever get out of the police station alive? I fear that Mitrice’s last hours were bereft with torment and fear by the very folk sworn to protect and serve. Just a hunch.
Praying her family’s courage and tenacity to make the po-po pay for endangering a citizen who was merely drunk… no more, no less, than a whole lot of Malibu moms and white girls with the right address up in them hills who dont come up missing.
When does a person have to claim responsibility for themselves? If I were to wish to leave a police station at any time not being charged, I have that right, and I do not expect taxpayers to pay for transportation, babysitting, or even communication past a certain point.
If she was not offered the use of phones or if told she could not remain at the station(regardless of overcrowding or not) then there is a SERIOUS issue of mistreatment. If the police are unable to produce video records of her leaving etc. Then there is likely to be a serious issue.
Otherwise it seems to me a sad but insignificant story of an adult who made a mistake, and then chose their own path. Whatever happened after that fact is a complete mystery, and fear should not result in finger pointing.
I think it was a little irresponsible for the police to release this woman into the night alone but I also feel that at 24 you need to take a little accountability for your actions. The parents sheltered their daughter and even admitted they did on national television so they should also shoulder part of the blame for their 24 year-old daughter’s deprived upbringing. Furthermore the pictures they keep showing of the woman and the fact that she was smoking herb and tried to dine-and-dash doesn’t necessarily make her look innocent at all, but that might be a generalization on my part. This does reek of a cover up though by the police (not being able to trace who she called from a sheriff’s station). But at the same time, why didn’t this naive woman call her mommy and daddy. Shame on everyone involved!!! I hope they find her.
theres NO EXCUSE THE POLICE ARE INVOLVED.
THE ROMANS ARE RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS A PURE CASE OF RACISUM. THE POLICE ARE TO BLAME ALL DAY.
I WANT TO SEE THE FOOTAGE OF HER BEING RELEASED.AND LEAVING THE POLICE STATION,IM SURE THE HOLE CITY OF MALIBU IS UNDER SERVALANCE. SHOW US HER WALKING DOWN THE STREET.
Everyone wants to blame the police for everything. That is bull. She was a grown freaking woman. And really. She obviously wasn’t much of an upstanding citizen if she had drugs in her car and couldn’t pay her dinner bill.
I’m sorry this title should read woman not girl. This woman is not a child and it responsible for herself. Did the police station not have a phone. Did she not get a phone call. Were they no pay phones. I’m pretty sure if this “woman” would have asked to call someone the cops would have let her. It is time to grow up people the police are not your caregivers and once you are an adult you should be able to use your brain to figure out how to solve a problem or issue you are in. Of course if the cops would have continued to hold her like some suggest the family would be screaming because they kept her to long. You just can’t make these people happy.
I really hope that this young woman is found. But I just don’t see how it is the police departments fault for whatever happened to her after she was released. If she was in an area she didn’t know she should have stayed in the police Lobby. Also, I’m pretty sure you get one phone call why didn’t she have someone come get her and wait at the police station. She was apparently intending to walk somewhere and something happened to her, that was just poor judgement on her part. I hope that this woman is okay but I just don’t see how this is the Police Departments fault. She could have waited at the jial until daylight.
Everyone wants someone else to blame
This is the cops fault. Because Ms. Richardson isn’t a Spears or a Lohan, she got the trashy treatment. Arnold needs to reprise his role as Robocop and go after the cops that mishandled this, fire the sheriff and the police chief, and then go look for the girl. Plus, John Walsh needs to get on this case.
If a white woman had been released in a black neighborhood at 1 o’clock AM, people would be up in arms, but it was a black woman so nobody sees it as a problem.
In fact, the vicious jerks on this page are blaming this young woman for her own disappearance? What if this were your daughter, you insensitive idiots?
Revfriday, what kind of reverend are you? Is this young woman now “responsible” for being abducted, which is what seems to have happened.
If she wasn’t intoxicated, why didn’t they return her to her car. If she was, why didn’t they call a cab for her. That’s what police do for white women ALL OF THE TIME.
Please note that the young lady’s mother tried to arrange to pick her up and was discouraged. In another report, it was explained that nobody told the young woman that her mother had called and was coming to collect her. They already have two contradictory reports 1) they couldn’t keep her because of overcrowding and 2) they offered to keep her despite overcrowding. Conflicting reports usually indicate that the police are lying and haven’t coordinated their stories.
Who knows if they even helped arranged for her to call somebody. If they had, wouldn’t they have said so? This makes me think that they did not arrange for her to make calls.o
It is clear that the woman was intoxicated and could not take care of herself, but they did not care or protect her. (Also, what kind of friends does this woman have that they would leave her in a situation like this.)
I live in LA. Malibu is EXTREMELY dark at night with very few street lights. She could have easily become lost and subsequently abducted.
Let’s not ignore the fact that this young woman is quite beautiful. Did that have something to do with her disappearance? Was somebody at the police department who became interested in her and saw that she was intoxicated involved in her disappearance? The officers had all seen her, knew she was intoxicated, and knew when she left.
This sounds like a cover up. I think they are making up the report that she was seen somewhere to make themselves look better.
Mark my words. She will NEVER be found. The police department will make sure she is never heard from again as I am sure they do not want anyone to hear the real story.
How do we know she ever left the station?
Tapes? Documentation?
The sheriff’s dept.changes their story repeatedly.
If she made calls from the station, why can’t the sheriff’s trace them & contact
those individuals to see what she said?
Why did it take over a week for them to launch a search?
The entire situation is very suspicious.
My prayers are with Mitrice, her parents, family, and friends. The world can sometimes be a very cold, mistrustful place. And some are quick to kick you when you are down. So be careful, and make wise choices.
thats what white people do, they kill blacks who invade their “utopian” communities, the police where hired by the populus to off this ni99er. i bet she died in the hands of the ones who swore to serve and protect, matt damon once told a black camera guy the a ni99er didnt boelong in a place like malibu
This is truly a sad story. Like most bloggers on here… I think this is a coverup done by the police dept. My prayers are with this Family!!!
Oh please like the police officers really went through so much trouble to get rid of one random woman. She was a grown woman who knows how to take care of herself, she could have asked to use a phone or asked to wait inside until her ride came. It’s not a race or fame issue.
OK FIRST OF ALL ITS NOT HER DAMN FAULT! POLICE ARE DIRTY AND SOME WHITE PEOPLE DONT SEE IT BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONLY DAMN ONES WHO GET PROTECTED! IF SHE WAS NOT BLACK THIS WOULD HAVE NOT HAPPENED! IM NOT THE TYPE TO TURN EVERYTHING INTO A RACE ISSUE BUT THIS CLEARLY IS. YES SHE IS AN ADULT, BUT Y WOULD U LET A CHILD OR WOMAN OUT IN THE DARK (REGARDLESS OF THERE RACE) ALONE WHAT KIND OF MEN ARE THESE DAMN COPS!AND THOSE OF U ARE SAYING SHE IS NOT A GOOD CITIZEN BECAUSE OF THE SMALL AMOUNT OF DRUGS IN HER CAR, DO U KNOW HOW MANY POLICE OFFICES DO DRUGS, STEAL MONEY AND DO EVERYTHING ELSE BAD UNDER THE SUN! STOP ACTING LIKE THE POLICE CAN DO NO WRONG WHEN THE CAN AND THEY DO!
What I would like to know is if she was given a field sobriety test and passed why didn’t they give Her the vehicle back?

First, the sheriff’s department should not have released her until the sun came up or she had a ride. That is department policy for Ventura county. Second, the sheriff lied and told the parents that they released her because their jail was crowded? Turns out there was only one other inmate in custody. Our sheriff’s lie? Hum! Third, searched her car and impounded it? What did her car have to do with not paying for a meal? I don’t excuse her for not paying for her meal, that’s wrong, but they could have cited her and released her. It’s our “over zealous” & “mighty than thou” sheriff department that has now put this girls life at risk.
