NY Post: The husband of the alleged DWI mom charged with killing one of her daughter's friends in a West Side crash urged her not to drive a group of girls home for a slumber party -- and when she refused, he grabbed their young son from the car and stormed off, witnesses said.

The fuming husband told other worried partygoers that his wife, Carmen Huertas, 31, should not get behind the wheel as she stumbled out of a Chelsea apartment with her daughter and six other girls, ages 11 to 14, and the couple's 1-year-old son Sunday morning, the witnesses told The Post.

Following Huertas to the street, her husband, identified by neighbors as Eduardo Henriquez, tried to stop her from driving, they said.

But when the allegedly boozed-up woman started yelling at him, refusing his demand, he grabbed his son and took off in a cab -- leaving her in charge of the 1998 Mercury Sable loaded with kids, some of the children told their parents.

"She wouldn't give up the keys, so he got fed up and took off with his little boy in a cab," said Melody Sanchez, quoting her daughter, Kayla Fernandez, 11, who was hurled from Huertas' car as it flipped over several times on the Henry Hudson Parkway.

The horrific smash killed Leandra Rosado, 11.

"He'd been told [by other partygoers], 'You can't let her drive,' " Sanchez said.

Leandra's devastated dad, Lenny Rosado, yesterday went to his daughter's school to pass around funeral information.

Cops said Huertas had a blood-alcohol content of .132 -- 1½ times the legal limit of .08 -- when she set off to drive her daughter, Brittany Gonzalez, 11, and six young pals from the gathering at Brittany's dad's apartment on West 20th Street to her Bronx home for a slumber party.

The survivors said she ignored her own daughter's pleas to slow down as she hurtled along the road at 80 mph and instead taunted her, "If you think this is bad, wait until we get on the highway."

Soon after, she lost control of the car, hurling three of the children onto the road and killing Leandra.

Huertas was charged with manslaughter, assault and DWI. She was still in Harlem Hospital yesterday with a broken arm and is expected to appear at an arraignment hearing after treatment.

Brittany and her dad, Ernie Gonzalez, wept with Lenny Rosado on Monday night.

'It was really emotional," Rosado said.

"[Brittany] was blaming herself because it was her mother who was driving. She says she's getting mean messages from other kids saying she should have been the one who died."

Cops yesterday said they had no plans to arrest anyone else in connection with the crash.

To me, it seems that someone could’ve stopped her from driving. It sounds like there were quite a few adults there. Why didn’t someone get control of this woman and her car keys? Why didn’t they stop the girls from getting in the car with her?? I bet alot of people are feeling guilty about allowing this to happen.

He should have called 911 and have them dispatched police officers to prevent her from driving.

How many adults were there? Was nobody capable of dialing 911? He grabbed one child…why did nobody grab the others or tell them (as they’re obviously older) to NOT get in the car and to stay put?

Seriously, every adult that was there was to blame. If they knew she was drinking, why didn’t they stop her, take her keys, or prevented any of the kids getting in the car with her. This is truly a sad story and one that could have been prevented.

Good site. Nice and fun reading. I’ve got a opinion to offer about t-shirts.
