Just because your child has braces doesn't mean they can't partake in all the Halloween excitement. Celebrity chef and Food Network star Michael Chiarello has recipes that will help you and your kids get through the sticky holiday.
For kids with braces, Halloween can be a tough and tempting time. With treats that can cause damage to their braces and prolong their treatment, the American Association of Orthodontists says Halloween is their busiest time of year.
Here are some treats to help you enjoy Halloween without ruining your smile:
• Soft, melt-in-your-mouth chocolates
• Peanut butter cups
• Milk shakes
• Gelatin
• Peeled, thinly sliced apples
• Ice cream
Make sure your child avoids treats like caramel, nuts (including candies that contain nuts), taffy, candy corn, and bubble gum. These treats are braces' worst nightmare.
To make Halloween a little less scary for your children, try making these easy and sweet braces-friendly treats from celebrity chef Michael Chiarello:
• Black and Orange Bon Bons
• Green Goo Slimedoo
