Insurance Company to Cover 'Fat' Baby

After public outcry, a Colorado insurance company reversed its decision to deny coverage to a 17-pound infant.

Alex Lange can now breathe a sigh of relief and so can his parents, Bernie and Kelli. The 4-month-old was denied health coverage by the Rocky Mountain Health Plan for a pre-existing condition. According to the company, Alex was just too fat to cover. Alex weighs 17 pounds and is 25 inches long, which puts him in the 99th percentile for size.
Now, the Colorado-based insurance company has reversed its initial decision.
"Should we be denying coverage for healthy babies just because they are above the 95th percentile?" a rep told ABC News. "It doesn't make good sense, it doesn't make good policy, and we're not going to do it."
Had it not been for the public outrage over this story, do you think Rocky Mountain Health Plan would have backpedaled from their decision?

Insurance Companies continue to play these games with people’s health and lives, and there are people that *still* don’t understand the need for healthcare reform. Every single parent that is against it, should just for one second, put themselves in Bernie and Kelli’s position and then tell me that it isn’t needed.
Why does it take a public outcry for these companies to do the right thing?
